Switch back and forth during promotion?

So Im signed up for the 60k Delta promotion and had to switch from points to miles to do so.

Next week I have a long 6 day stay at about $350 a night so Id like to get the points. I'll have plenty of stays to get the full 60k miles.

So if I switch NOW back to points, wait until I check out, then switch BACK to miles will I still be at the same place in the promotion?

Or will this throw things out of whack?

Thanks!

I would love to know the answer to this as well, and you would be an excellent guinea pig. If you try, please post here to let us know if it works!

I had the same question and called MR and was told that you will still
be at the same place in the promotion. Was also told that you could
switch back and forth multiple times if so desired. Have not tried it
yet.

If you only want points for the single upcoming stay, you have two options:

1. If you have enough time between your last miles-earning stay and the upcoming points-earning stay, and all completed stays have posted to your account, feel free to change your earning preference in your online profile. You must keep the preference set to earn points until the points post, so if you are immediately following up with another stay that you want to earn miles, this will create a tangle.

2. If this single stay is intended to be a singular event earning points while in the middle of a bunch of miles-earning stays, you can tell the hotel at check-in to "force" the stay to earn points. (You will even get your platinum amenity bonus points, which you normally don't when earning miles). The desk clerk may not know how to do this, but the manager should. If there is any doubt, you should ask the manager to get on the phone with the MR folks. You want to get this straightened out at check-in.

I was told about this "force points" technique by a Marriot Plat Line rep, and I can confirm that it did work for me just a couple of weeks ago. The reason why I did it was because I had completed all 13 DL miles stays, but the last few had not yet posted. I was doing back-to-back stays, so I didn't want to change my preference to points and screw up the pending miles posts. Yet I didn't want to earn miles anymore, since I had maxed out the promo.

I did it

I did Delta promo - was going to a high dollar Marriott so switched to points for one night - then switched back the next day to snag another 5K miles.

No problem.

I am now on points as I got what I needed from Delta.

As noted, I found out you normally have to wait for the points or miles to post from your previous stay to switch (so back to back stays can't be credited differently). So it is good to read that there is the force stay option also.

Although I really don't prefer to accumulate Delta miles over other airlines, this ability to switch back and forth makes the summer promos overall better than I thought at first.

I have 2 stays towards points and have 3 upcoming stays. I would like all 5 to count towards the 60k Delta promotion instead of the points promotion (wasn't intending to have more than 3 stays originally). Anyone ever had luck getting Marriott to do a switch like this?

Once the points are issued there's no switching them.
