Question Marriott in safe area in LAX?

Hello, i will spend one night in LA and want to stay in a Marriott or Renaissance where the area is safe, i like to walk in the area of the hotel with my wife.

Any good advice for a nice Marriott or Renaissance.

Thank you,

Pascal

The area around LAX (LAX courtyard, Marriott and Ren) is reasonably safe but not at all appealing to walk. I would look to Manhattan Beach or Marina Del Ray. Only issue might be with a possible lack of LAX shuttle service from some of these locations.

Marina del Rey is the place to go ! A short distance to LAX but I would still leave myself 2-2 1/2 hours.

Area around LAX is not that nice and nothing to see, unless you are on the CL and watch all the Post Office trucks roll in and out 24 hours a day (The Main LA Post office is across the street from the LAX FS).

There's nothing around the LAX Marriott or Ren (restaurant, shops) that you would even want to walk to. Lots of traffic, off airport parking lots, fast food places, rental car lots. I stay at the Ren almost every other week just to be at LAX for a 6am flight the next morning.

I've also stayed at the Marriott Marina Del Ray--much better neighborhood, 1 block to the beach--they have bikes that you can use to go down the bike path to Santa Monica. Also across the street from the marina with many restaurants. If you have some time to kill before a flight this is the place. Only downside is there is no free shuttle to LAX which is only 10 mins. away. Very Plat friendly too...

Are you looking for locations around LAX (the airport) or Los Angeles (the city and surrounding metropolitan area)?

I stayed in Courtyard Pasadena last week. Very nice. Lot's of places to walk really close to the hotel (as long as you don't go over the highway). On Friday around 10-11am it took me 40 minutes to get to LAX.

If you do decide to stay at the Marriott or the Ren LAX, please note there is a free shuttle called the "Ocean Express" that will take you to downtown Manhattan Beach, which has lots of shops, restaurants, bars, and a pier w/ a small aquarium at the end and is a quaint seaside town & is about 10-15 minutes away. The concierge at both hotels will have the shuttle schedule. It runs from mid-morning 'til mid-evening I believe.

Cheers.

I stay at the Ren LAX all the time (another trip this week). Not much to see in the area, but relatively safe (has to be, I see lots of TSA screeners walking the streets - so it must be safe, musn't it? ).

Seriously, though, the Marina Del Rey Marriott is a decent place and pretty safe for walking. It's not an outstanding property, the CL is small (smaller than Ren LAX), but it's OK.

If you're looking around LA itself or other areas, there are some decent properties around in safe areas.

+1 Marina Del Rey. Lots of areas for walking and plenty of restaurants. Not much in the LAX area, but for the areas I have walked in it was not unsafe.

Will you have a car or be relying on taxi to the hotel? There is a Renaissance in Hollywood at Hollywood and Highland (all the stars are there). Not sure how far you will walk from the hotel compared to Marina Del Rey. Same with the Marriott Downtown LA. Just not much in those areas compared to Marina Del Rey. If you are up for long walks, you from MDR, you can make it to the Promenade in Santa Monica, just up the hill from the Pier. Or just stop at the pier.

Nice area, but the hotel itself is kind of dingy. I stay there quite a bit.

Folks, folks, let's chat here. If someone just wants a 'safe place', then Marina, MB, LAX, & others are ALL ok.

But crikey, if you're really talking 'things to do', Marina itself - truly not so much, especially on 'which' marina property you're chatting about.

You talking CY Marina - yeah, ok, but you're in a strip mall complex (ie, lots of kinds of shops - not literally 'strip'). That's definitely a LA experience - not. You talking FSM - ok, you're across from the beach & a couple of decent restaurants - and ok, not far from Venice, etc, so I'd give that some kudos. But crikey, you guys are making both properties sound as though they're fab & truthfully they're not, but they're ok. And both properties require cabs to get to them, so the OP needs to factor in cab fare both directions.

I truly think for a 'quick' overnight stay in a decent area w/ restaurants, bars, shops - and a free shuttle - Manhattan Beach is the place to go to when staying at airport properties.

I think for a longer stay, anyone coming in has lots of options in all parts of LA.

OVMV. Cheers.

Have stayed at both MR LAX & Ren Montura numerous times over the years, and most recently last December. Both properties and that part of Century Blvd are safe. I had even parked my car on 98th & 96th over night without any problem. I had walked to/from my vehicle past 10pm w/o any fear. All streets nearby are well lit and most times there were people (workers) walking back & forth before mid-night. I did also noticed cop cars drive by the area as well.

OT but FT always interested. I always received good upgrade at both locations.

Close to the airport (but far enough to not be an airport property) and in a great area for walking is the JW Santa Monica. Renaissance Beverly Hills is nice for walking. Even the Renaissance Hollywood is fine for walking. Hollywood used to be a hole, but it is better now.

If you want to go away from LA a bit, the Marriott in Newport Beach is a great area. You can walk all around Balboa Island and the peninsula. Lots of options, and if you want to do things in LA, do not waste your time at the airport.
