The Ren Downtown Toronto (at the Skydome) did this, when I stayed with them last year.

Although I did hear a story that at the Sheraton Richmond Hill, they also have this programme -- but the housekeeping are paid on a room by room basis (so they are out of pocket if too many people decline).

Why does marriott now do the same as Starwood with the 'Make a Green Choice" program?

If you stay at a Starwood Hotel for more than one night you can choose to participate in the 'Make a Green Choice' program. If you do not get the room serviced you get either $ 5.00 or 500 points. I have stayed a lot in Marriotts lately and do not need the room done each day.

So is your title misleading as I think you're asking why Marriott doesn't do the same as Starwood....or am I misreading your intent ??

I think "now" was supposed to be "not", but I don't think the OP can edit the thread title. Mod needs to do it.

It's a good question. When I stay at Starwood, I take the 500 points and hang up my towels. I would do the same at any hotel for a similar reward, but when a hotel tries to guilt me into doing it for free, allowing only the hotel to reap the benefit, it really makes me want to throw the towels on the floor.

If it's a B&B or some other boutique hotel that makes no mention of the towels, I hang them up. Y'know, because I'm green and all...

Note that not all Starwood hotels participate in the "Green Choice" program. I do believe there is a thread in the SPG forum listed the hotels that do participate.

But I do agree that it would be nice if Marriott had a similar corporate program a hotel could opt in if they wanted.

I can confirm that 3 years later Norcross is still doing this.

I think I've seen this option in 1 Marriott out of 50. I would definitely like it, the green choice (and previously the free breakfast) were why I consistently choose Westin's when possible.

I hang a do not disturb sign for 3 or 4 days anyway on business travel, why not get rewarded for being low maintenance? And 500 SPG points a day really add up.

Marriott to offer something similar to SPG green choice?

Question to all,

Wouldnt it be great if Marriott offered something similar to SPG's green choice benefit?

When I travel for work, I usually do 2-3 night stays weekly and I always decline housekeeping as I just need towels. I just checked in at Le Meredian in Tampa and 500 pts per night to decline service is very nice. Even if I request towels, that doesnt override the benefit.

Come on Marriott
