DFW Recommendations

I'm looking for a good DFW airport recommendation for one night before heading off to a wedding. It will be my first stay as an elite, so something with good upgrade possibilities and a nice lounge would be nice I'm looking at either the DFW Marriott south or DFW Marriott north. Anyone have any opinions on the Marriotts around here?

I really like the Marriott DFW South - with the caveat that it is a standard FS Marriott property - i.e. nothing exceptional in terms of location, spectacular views, or unique touches.

My experiences are all as a Platinum elite member. You say that this is your first stay as an "elite" memeber, so I am not sure if you mean Silver, Gold or Platinum, and that may affect some of the amenities to which you are entitled. However, I received a club floor room, lounge access, and free wireless Internet at the hotel. In addition, my welcome amenity offered a beer, which is standard Samuel Adams, but the hotel was happy to substitute my request for a Shiner Bock. While the lounge is nothing special, I recall their being something hot on the breakfast side, and some kind of hors d'oeurves in the evening. My one lounge complaint, if I am remembering this hotel correctly, was in the dessert selection - maybe only cookies after 7:30ish.

I also find that I can always score a very reasonable rate - and the hotel is far enough away from the airport that there is no parking charge, if you have a car.

I have been staying at the DFW Marriott south for the past six weeks and I have to say this is a pretty decent Marriott if you are Gold or above. I've always gotten on the top floor (8) which has the lounge and it is one of the better lounges I've been in. They have eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, oatmeal, hash browns or grits (this IS Texas), and the usual assortment of cold items in the morning. In the evenings they have small sandwiches, cheese crackers, alcohol (for purchase), and a couple of hot items. After hours they serve a fairly typical desert. Lounge is broken into two rooms with two TVs. There is view out of a field and American Airlines headquarters.

Overall the staff is very friendly and the women who run the lounge are always in a good mood. They actually already know my name after just a few weeks where as at some properties it has taken months.

I mean it's not the Ritz but I give it a ^

We like the Springhill Suites Dallas DFW Airport East/ Las Colinas/Irving property. Everything always works well at this property and the price is usually the lowest when comparing tariffs at any given time. Their breakfast is particularly tasty and filling. I'd take a look at the comments in TripAdvisor.com before making a decision. As an Elite, however, you'll probably get more more your money at one of their full-service hotels.

Sounds like DFW south may be a good choice. Cost isn't an issue, I've got a cat 4 cert that I need to burn before the end of the year, and this seems like the be chance I have to use it.
