This might be the second Starwood property I've been tossed out of in the past year - first the Diplomat closed, and now this? Yes, when is this going to happen since I'm sure those of us holding rooms on points might be the first to go to make room for paying customers in the remaining tower - hope I'm wrong.
The likelihood that you will be "tossed out" is pretty low.
As I noted, I read several different articles and none had dates. Since this may affect you, I highly recommend contacting the hotel directly.

Generally I'm pretty happy when hotels get renovated. IMHO the new owners are making the right decision to update due to the impending opening of the Conrad next door.
As a SPG loyalist I do have to say I'm concerned that the renovation might possibly push the hotel up to a Cat. 6 redemption option. Due to the Sheraton's departure there are less SPG rooms available on the beach and I would sadly assume that they will try and get away with a higher category redemption if possible after the reno. Just my thoughts!

That said as there are more and more higher end props in the area if they raise their rates too high they may lose some biz. Then if they do become a cat6, will folks still go to them or turn instead to the cat6's in Miami instead, since Im sure the cat6's in MIA will cost more $$ wise so folks would see that as more bang for their pts

Renovating floor by floor is different than renovating and turning one tower into condos - effectively halves the number of rooms available as hotel sells.
I've made a back-up reservation someplace else, but I'll just wait and see what happens to my W reservation.

The residency building, in the past, has been used to upgrade people into two bedroom suites with a kitchen and laundry. In the early days of this property, the condos weren't selling so the PLATINUM upgrade chances for a two bedroom suite were very very good. Which in turn led to nice upgrades for GOLDS in the hotel tower.

I have a weekend reservation here next week. I am a platinum and I have applied the SNA to the reservation.
Any recent reviews? How is the breakfast? Thoughts on upgrade?
TIA

I was there a couple of months ago, and that was my sixth visit.
The SNA alternatives are really not that great. The fantastic suites are on floor 6 to 12, I think, with smallish balconies and noise potential from airvents and the main pool. The 1BR condo that also is in the SNA pool, is on the back, and the least desirable of the condos. You may get a further upgrade, though.
Breakfast is still the boring grab and go credit at the W Cafe, with a freshly baked pie being a decent option (but those are gone pretty early).
You get a lot of space with both the fantastic suite or the 1br condo, plus the hotel is in a good location close to the beach - and often good a value for 12000 points. Other than that, the hotel is pretty average IMO.
