So, do you have any idea, whether I can use the e-gift card, with my name as recipient, to pay for my friend's room while I'm present there? Will he get the marriott points? Besides, it seems that it's ok to leave the recipient/purchaser info blank...So what would actually happen?

I do it all the time with Mr. Nacho. He bought the card and we used it to pay for our rooms, we got our points, stay credits etc.

What if Mr. Nacho is not present during the check-in? Can you use the gift-card purchased by him to pay for the room reserved under your name?

Thanks a lot=)

It's a gift card. It's designed to be given as a gift, to someone else.

All this purchasing for points stuff is only done for us obsessives :D. The vast majority of people will purchase the card, give it to whomever, and never see it (the card, that is) again.

From the hotel's point of view, what they care is whether they get their $, it doesn't matter who it's from.

I have never been asked for ID or anything when I pay with Mr. Nacho's GC.

Thanks a lot for your information, glad to hear that.

While AMT promo code is applied only for giftcard purchase, the 10points/dollar promo is applied on both egiftcard and giftcard purchase right?

And do they have name printed on that e-giftcard/email? Can I for example, buy the e-giftcard using my name and my marriott number(to get the 10points/dollar promo), then give it to my parents to use it? Will I have to be there during the check-in if my parents wanna use my egiftcard to pay for their room?

No. The eGiftCard will probably not qualify for the AMT promo. See the very last sentence at the Marriott website.

This is definitely worth it for those who stay at Marriott. Bought a bunch and will be buying another batch so I can use them next year.

No name printed on the gift card but I'm not sure about the eGiftCard. According to CJKatl, it shows both your name and the recipient's name.

I find having the physical card better. Anyone can use it but keep in mind that you won't get credit for the stay unless you are also there checking in. You can always use the eGiftCard to do this also since it will have their names but I think you need to contact the hotel ahead of time so they have it on file.

Earning points on Marriott Gift card purchase using Canadian Marriott Visa?

Hi,

I have tried to locate if this question has been asked before, but I could not so I am sorry if this is redundant. There was a few back in 2008, but not sure if things have changed.

So, I have Canadian Marriott Visa, and I am planning to purchase about $500.00 worth of Marriott gift cards.

My questions :

1. When I purchase the gift card using my Marriott Visa, will I be earning
5 points per dollar spent ? ( i.e. 5*500=2500). I asked a Marriott cust service through email and they say I only ear 1 point per dollar spent using Marriott Visa

2. When I use Marriott Gift cards in Marriott properties -I am thinking Courtyard Marriott in HK will be earning additional 10 points per dollar spent ? (i.e. 10*500 =5000 points)

Therefore in total, I will be earning 7500 points from buying $500.00 Marriott gift card using my Canadian Marriott Visa ?

or only 5000 points for spending the gift card at Marriott properties?

Please correct me if I am wrong

THANKS A LOT guys !

depends on what Canadian Visa cards accrue for Marriott charges

ONLY for room costs................no incidentals earn points at CYs.............but bonuses on status still accrued

Therefore in total, I will be earning 7500 points from buying $500.00 Marriott gift card using my Canadian Marriott Visa ?

BKKLEE, Thanks for the info.
As per Cad Marriott Visa card website from Chase it says:

"You'll receive 5 points per $1 spent at over 3,500 participating Marriott Rewards locations, including Marriott Hotels and Resorts, JW Marriott Hotels and Resorts, Renaissance Hotels and Resorts, Fairfield Inn®, Courtyard®, Residence Inn®, TownePlace Suites®, Springhill Suites®, Marriott Vacation Club resorts. That includes restaurants, gift shops, room service, and any other Marriott related service. What's more, you'll earn 2 points for every $1 spent on airline tickets purchased directly with the airline, and at car rental agencies & restaurants and 1 point per $1 spent on purchases elsewhere. "

I read in flyertalk from some people that they earn 5 points, but I doubted myself when the person from Marriott email centre told me only 1 point per dollar.

since it will be Chase Visa posting the points to your account (as opposed to Marriott CSs), I'd go along with what the provider states............

I generally ignore all your nonsense posts but this one really just has me shaking my head... Sharon agreed with this:

How are you so dense that you can't understand, agree or comprehend that most people give a gift card as a gift to someone else?

Would the word "Agree" make it easier for you to understand vs. "This"? ;) :p :D

Cheers.

Information regarding e-giftcard received from Marriott Gift Card department

I emailed marriott gift card department regarding their e-gift card, and their reply is as follows:

1. Can I purchase those e-gift card and give them to my parents to pay for their room while I'm not present at the hotel?
---If you send the email confirmation to your parents and they print and present that to the hotel you will be find. Yes if you parents have the email confirmation you do not need to be there.

2. Do I need to put their name as recipient while making the purchase?
—No name is needed for the recipient

3. If let say, I purchase an e-gift card, putting my name as recipient, went to a hotel with my dad and the room is booked under my dad's marriott account. Could I use my e-gift card to pay for the room which is booked under my dad's marriott account?
--Yes

4. Would he get marriott points in that case?
—Standard earnings would apply on the Marriott Rewards account

5. Is it ok if I don't put the recipient name while making the purchase?
--Yes

6. So, if there's no recipient name written on the e-gift card, do I need to prove that I own that e-gift card?
---No, anyone who has the email with the card number can use it.

7. Do we need to register those e-gift card on gift card account?
---No, registering the card make it so we can replace it if you lose it. You would log into your account mark it lost and we would send a replacement card.
