Restrictions on the Acceptance of US Currency

Due to recent local regulations, the acceptance of US Dollars in cash is now restricted across Mexico. Payments with credit/debit cards remain unaffected. Please provide arrangements to settle your accounts and other expenses with a credit card or in Mexican Pesos. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause our guests.
FYI - the hotel also can't exchange USD<>MXN but they do have an ATM near the lobby (downstairs by the meeting rooms) that dispenses Pesos.

Ha... just saw this. I must look like a good guy to take money from. Nobody hesitated to take a tip from me.

We are going 11/21 for 5 free resort nites, so we are psyched. Just getting back from W South Beach where we had 5 free resort nites as well we 'did' get upgraded to a 'Fabulous' suite which was huge, I'm hoping for same look here at PM.

Question, I was just on the website and it looks like the cheapest room is the Jr. Suite.

since this is a resort are they 'all suites' and jr suite is the default room?

This is the only category 7 property is participating in SPG Free resorts night promotion.

The Standard Room for redemption is the 600 Square Feet Deluxe Garden room.

thanks for the info,

since there are none of those rooms available and lots of suites I would hope to think my chances are strong for an upgrade to a suite.

If no standard rooms are available, chances are high they have been filled by other Plats using free resort nights who will also be hoping for an upgrade. That said, I believe the property only has 11 of the garden view/standard rooms so chances should be decent anyway. It sounds like they are reasonably willing to upgrade from posts in this thread, and it will be interesting to see how they handle the influx of Plats with FRNs as we move out of their (very low) summer season.

My wife and I stayed there in July and played the Pacifico course. You should be aware that the price ($220) does not include a mandatory 10 or 15% gratuity (i cant remember the exact percentage). No info on discounts and we didn't replay. Range balls are included, people come out and give you iced towels, and they give you a smoothie after 9 holes. Expensive yes, but its a nice course. Very well maintained, and #3 is pretty breathtaking. Its a natural island green, and you have to wait for low tide to drive across the rocky path in the ocean to get to the green. I don't really know anything about the other course other than the fact that its supposed to be harder. Have fun!

I'll be staying at this resort for a week in December, wondering if renting a car would be a good idea or not?

Thinking of renting a car at PVR for the full week, it would be way cheaper than doing the transportation through the resort.

I'm ok with staying at the resort for the whole week, but is there anythig close to the resort to see?

We're renting a car (Apparently $180 there, $150 back)... But just not sure how to avoid the $30/day mexico "mandatory insurance" charge.

Look for my review somewhere in this thread but check out Sayulita and San Francisco (both small towns North of the SR). I've only been to Sayulita but from what I've heard SF is similar but less crowded/touristy. Definitely worth a day trip while you're at the SR. Also, you could drive into PV for the day if you wanted to check it out...it's about 30-40min each way.

As far as I know if you don't have the insurance through another provided (maybe an add on with US insurance?? or having Mexican insurance already) you must purchase it. But $30/day seems steep...I think we paid ~$11/day through Alamo if I remember correctly.

I rented through Hertz and declined their insurance as I was covered through my Amex Plat, no issues. Which rental company is forcing a mandatory $30/day charge?

They covered the mandatory Mexican driving insurance? This is different than the typical loss/damage etc.. insurance you see on cars in the states (which is also an option in Mexico).

Just FYI I had a similar setup with Alamo but was presented with the insurance when I went to pick up the rental. No mention of it on the website or in the quote/reservation.

Currently staying here and got upgraded to a nice big deluxe suite without asking. Resort is not very full (about 60%). Will post a full review after I finished my stay.

I rented a car via Hertz and was not charged/offered additional mexican insurance as it will be covered by the Amex according to them. I just had the normal options of insurances.
