AA canceled my early AM flight to SJU and would miss my connection to MSP. I am now on Liat.

Hi

Travelling from UK which seems a lot easier than from US. Expedia has now withdrawn the cheap rate so all rates are the same as on the Marriott website.

If anyone can get it cheaper please let me know by private message as I wonder if Marriott check this website!!

Thanks

Marriott St Kitts

Can anyone tell more about the resort from the perspective of a platinum member?

-Upgrade chances?
-Food choices (any cheap ones since i will be there for a 2 weeks)
-Is there an extra charge for the gym
-Scuba?

Sorry, there is no cheap food. The cheapest is the restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch off the main lobby but it is not cheap and we found the food to be pretty bad. THe other three restaurants, Italian, Seafood and Steak are all quite pricey. Upgrade chances are proabably good. DH is gold and we were staying on points and were upgraded to a "deluxe room" from the standard. No charge for the gym. Don't know about scuba.

Wow. Lucky you to spend two weeks there. Nice place to relax.

Spent a week there in May of 2007.

I can't recall if anyone mentioned upon check-in if we were upgraded. I do distinctly remember them asking to choose a welcome gift, and ended up in a higher-floor oceanview room.

KathyP is right. There's nothing particularly cheap on the property and several of the restaurants on-site have dress codes. There's a little bar/shack down the street on the beach that has typical pub food. I can't remember the name. You exit the hotel, head back towards the roundabout and go through it towards the beach. You'll dead end into it.

There's no extra charge for the gym, IIRC. I didn't use it but it looked pretty well stocked with new equipment for a hotel.

There's no dive shop on the property itself, at least not when I was there. The hotel works with Dive St Kitts, among others. I used DSK on that trip to get my open water certification. They're a pretty good operation IMHO. They came and picked me up and dropped me off each day.

Hope this helps.

Can I charge the food from the hotel to my bill to get points and use a gift card at least?

What were the prices at the bar/shack. Obviously not every meal but need to save when I can...

As for scuba

We were there in 2004 and heading back in Feb. I really liked http://www.divestkitts.com/

Not the fanciest place but great people and helpful. They can pick you up if you want.

For a great meal try.

-Upgrade chances? ... They are very good, I have been there 3 times and we always got a upgrade to ocean view. Twice to the resorts bldgs and once to the top floor of the main hotel.
-Food choices (any cheap ones since i will be there for a 2 weeks) ... try to get out of the resort, we loved Rock Lobster .. take a left outside the hotel and a 5 min walk. Also try the Shiggy Shack, this is a $6 cab ride and it has live music and more of Wed, I think
-Is there an extra charge for the gym ... they dont charge for the gym and its very nice
-Scuba? ... set up thru the hotel

Send me a email if you need anything else.

Off site food

For dinner, try Sprat Net which is about a 15 minute or so cab ride. Great lobster and ribs. You're seated on open benches outside so be mindful about the weather.

I saw a bunch of posts in the past saying this was a better time then the Caymans.

On tripadvisor they said the opposite. Said many flies on the island, and the hotel tried to bilk all inclusive (not telling you what is and isnt)

I had my worst Marriot experience and Grand Cayman is a tourist trap. St. Kitts is far far better.

Just my opinion.
