I liked it. I booked it because I had a work dinner event nearby. I had a deluxe room on the 20th floor - nice views, windows on two sides, very bright and clean and new-feeling. I thought the room itself was plenty big - a nice work space and a comfortable chair, with plenty of room around the bed. The bath was small - little shelf space - and the only "closet" was a tiny armoire. But I found it more comfortable than the renovated W on Lexington, which I also like ok. Both are certainly better than the Sheraton NY.

Just wrapping up a weeklong stay here while between apartments in New York. Overall it's a decent property and an excellent value for points, but not without some issues. As others have mentioned, the rooms are very small, and while it was fine for one person, it would be tough for two; more is out of the question.

They have done a decent job of making economical use of the space, with a two-level nightstand with iPod dock on the top level and phone on the bottom level for example, and the surge protector built into the desk offers more and more easily accessible outlets than I've seen in any other hotel room. But the bathroom is a bit awkward: I twice hit my head (before learning better) on the towel rack when turning on the shower, for example, and when washing my hands in the sink it was nearly impossible to avoid splashing water everywhere (including, quite unfortunately, on the fly area of one's pants).

The hotel is also aging ungracefully: the wooden desk in my room was scratched up and splintered thanks to the combination of metal chair + soft wood desk + small space; many of the "around the edges" details of the room (baseboard scuffing, peeling wallpaper seams etc.) make it look 20 years old rather than 2. I've seen worse in New York, especially for the price, but the desk especially was poorly conceived in that respect.

The staff is excellently friendly and helpful, if occasionally a bit canned (while waiting in line to check in, I heard 3 people get the exact same line from both agents about the bar being open until 1 or "until the last person drops").

As for the location, one of the most contentious aspects of this property it seems, I would speak in its defense, although that's partially because I'm a local so it's more of a neighborhood I wouldn't mind living in, which may be different from what some tourists would want. But despite being in a slightly-out-of-the-way immediate area, it's actually a great location. The West Village is a 5-minute walk away to the north, and the Meatpacking District just beyond that, SoHo is a 5-10 minute walk to the east, and the Lower East Side is a 20-30 minute walk away, which I found quite manageable though it would not be ideal when the weather is less pleasant. The area is a bit challenging in that all of those neighborhoods aren't necessarily immediately rewarding for a first-time visitor--their best parts are tucked away on side streets--but if you like exploring a destination on foot it's perfect.

Hi,

Would anyone know if street parking is possible in this area on a Friday - Sunday night stay? I had no issues at the 4 points in Chelsea literally finding a spot right in front of the hotel for the weekend. I don't mind walking a few blocks.

Thanks

Anyone score late checkout with Soho FP?

You should be fine- the area south and west is pretty desolate at night. If you don't mind a 10 minute walk, you can go south of Canal on the west side- Desbrosses street is pretty good for weekend street parking.

I've stayed at the Soho Four Points five or so times, they have always granted a 4 pm checkout upon request.

I stayed at this property a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed the location - one block to subway, several minute walk to Soho. Rooms are NYC small but nice. Each floor only has 8 rooms or so which I like. For the money, a great stay.

I usually avoid the Four Points brand like the plague, almost every single one I've tried has been mediocre at best, awful most of the time.

Not this one, though. I had business week before last just around the corner from this place, and when various internet reviews came up suggesting this was not horrendous, but actually decent, I decided to take a chance.

I'm glad I did. I got a prepaid $206 rate from the SPG website, and the hotel was easily the best Four Points I've ever experienced. Super clean, comfortable, very friendly front desk staff, tasty breakfast omelette. Yeah, the room was tiny, but hey, this is Manhattan, for crying out loud!

Bleecker Street is nearby for the bohemian types with lots of cafes, and I took in a superb jazz show featuring composer Michel Legrand (of "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" film fame) at the nearby Blue Note club.

I'm not easily impressed, but this one exceeded my expecations in every way. Great budget choice for NYC....

There are other posts in this thread that address this in more detail, but in short, the area will be on the quiet side at night but should be totally safe, as is almost all of New York. The number 1 subway line is very, very close, and the C and E lines are also not far. There are not many restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, but there are plenty within a 10 minute walk or so--the West Village is a short walk north from the hotel and is loaded with restaurants.

sounds good....i end up spending over a dozen nights at the w times square every year but i don't want to pay over $350 for a late night check-in & early morning check-out....guess i'll give this property a go this time....

Slow internet

Quick update: this hotel has entered my do-not-stay-here-list due to the unworkable Internet. I was getting less than dialup speeds, about 0.04 M, not enough to join a business conference call over Skype audio.

Nearby is a Courtyard by Marriott and the Trump SoHo.

:td:
