Westin versus Sheraton at Atlanta Airport?

I need to stay near Atlanta airport for a few days next month....

Does anyone have an opinion of the Westin versus the Sheraton. These properties are relatively close to one another.

I stay at both a couple of times each year. They are very comparable so I let price guide me. If price is close, I go with the Westin.

Thanks for the advice!

I was curious because the price differential is not consistent... must depend on relative bookings

You're right. I've seen it when the price was within $10 for each property and other times I've seen it when there is an $80 difference.

Due to a delayed Delta flight last night, I had to stay at this hotel. I was pleased to see that I had been pre-upgraded to a Junior Suite. The room was fine. When I woke up early to catch my flight, I was surprised to find that I had been charged almost 4x the room rate. A deposit of $373 was taken for a $94 room. This turned out to not be a deposit, but a charge. The front desk had no idea what happened and the manager said that the woman that checked me in made a mistake and that I would have to wait until next week for a credit. In addition, I was given a voucher for the continental breakfast. The waitress asked if I wanted to pay for the full. I did not and with that, she disappeared and was not seen again. I was the only person in the restaurant. I will never return to this hotel an am very annoyed that I was mischarged with no explanation.

Wow! I have had nothing but great treatment from this property over 10-12 stays.

I am currently an SPG Preferred Plus member (will be SPG Gold after tonight). I checked in to the Westin Atlanta Airport this afternoon and was upgraded to a Deluxe King room on the 10th floor (top floor, club level) without asking. I was also given a $5 credit to my room for dinner. Rachel was very polite and professional.

I haven't been to this hotel since 2001. It looks like time hasn't been overly kind to it in the last 10 years, but the rooms are nice. I'm a tad upset that I don't have dual shower heads (really enjoyed those at the Westin Georgetown), but for less than $100, this is by far one of the best values I've had in the last 3 years as an SPG member.

Although I have 5 nights paid for at the nearby Sherton for my SPG Getaways quota in a week, I will definitely be back to the Westin to fill out my Platinum Challenge quota in August. I was a bit cautious with this hotel, given the negative feedback both here and TA, but my experience has been very satisfactory.

When looking for a Starwood hotel near the airport, my experiences at the Westin and Sheraton have been night and day. I only wish I could cancel my Sheraton stay and book those nights here at the Westin. I suppose I should reserve this post until after tonight, as my negative experiences at the Sheraton have been due to wedding and reunion parties and the associated loud guests (on SPG floors), but I have barely heard a peep from the hallways tonight so far.

I just finished a stay here this past weekend, and must say this hotel is much better than the reviews here on FT. First, they have completely remodeled. I have also been given a junior suite each of the 6 times I have stayed. They also will give plats a breakfast coupon for two at a better than average breakfast buffet. That combined with a cheap price is a good deal for me.

NICE STAY

Stayed this past weekend. Booked two rooms with points for 2 nights. One was King the other was Double asked for adjoining. Hotel desk(called on Wednesday) said no problem upgraded me to a Junior suite then added request for adjoining. Upon checkin had rooms correct, just not adjoining but fixed immediatley. Also got BKFST coupons for continental, full was $2 upgrade for eggs and meat. Overall a nice stay not the best location in town but Hotel is safe and clean. Definite good value for 12000 points for 2 rooms and 2 nights would do it again in a heart beat.

Staying here now. I would say VERY avg. Staff nice, which is cool. No room upgrade, no lounge, no free breakfast. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the "rules" but isn't breakfast part of the Plat deal? Booked a King, got a double. Room small, bathroom small. Lobby decent with some people hanging out and having fun at the bar. Lots' of airline crews. Overall VERY avg. Disappointing actually, as last night at the Sheraton I moved to get a better property figuring Westin was worth the extra $$ lol

Stayed last week when DL had a mechanical and I refused the sketchy hotel they wanted to put me in.

They could not have treated me any better. Front desk offered to show me the jr. suite I had been upgraded to, but I was fine on my own. Great room, modern bathroom and outlet for my phone next to the bed. I also got bkfst coupons for continental, full was $2 upgrade for eggs and meat. It was a well presented breakfast buffet with lots of fresh fruit and berries along with all the usual hot & cold items.

Yes, for a Continental breakfast, if you make that your choice as your Platinum welcome amenity.

New Policy

I've stayed here 2-3x/month for almost a year. Historically, this property offered continental breakfast (w/ option to upgrade to hot buffet for a few $) to Plat's "because they do not have a club lounge". 500 points were offered as Plat amenity.

Tonight at check in was the first time that continental breakfast was presented to me as an option in lieu of 500 points. Others apparently had the same experience. The desk explained this was the new policy. I understand the new choices, and it's probably great in the overall big picture of benefits across all properties. In the case of this specific property, the new policy is a nominal downgrade.

Note the neighboring Sheraton does offer a club lounge with rates usually $20+/night lower.

Good Stay

After a recent stay at this hotel, I think I may start staying here instead of my normal W Buckhead. While the W can be had for a close rate with my corporate code most of the time, they often only have rooms at twice the price. This property is clean, friendly staff, cheaper parking, and appears to have consistent reasonable pricing. I had one minor service issue during my stay, and a manager called me and more than resolved the situation and I've recommended the property to coworkers who have been happy as well.

Yes they failed to mention the platinum breakfast option at checkin, but so does almost every property. I really can't fault them for this. If I want the breakfast option I ask for details.
