I used to think the Sheraton (towers) would be my home in HKG but am really looking forward to checking out the W tomorrow night! :)

Yeah seems like it, screams "recession." They also have Happy Hour here, $50 per drink 6-8pm Mon-Fri. Then again even outside the promo the Living Room seems pretty happenin'. Pity I usually end up in Honkers over weekdays these days, DJ Angus who plays here Thu-Sat is fab; hey even Duffy got all hot and bothered...;)

Just when I thought they couldn't get better, I got a nice surprise in my room when we got there shortly after Happy Hour, we got a cocktail mixer and ingredients for an apple martini. :D I remember the Insider asking me prior to arrival what food/drink the boyf likes - i responded that he likes making cocktails. :D

Off to Kee Club tonight, private members only place but we got onto the door list thanks to Whatever/Whenever. :)

Typing this from the W Living Room, enjoying a Fleur De Lys at the same time. Ahhh it's great to be home.

The other half is beside himself, taking pics of everything and anything - I'm so happy that he gets what the fuss is about now!:D

Anyhoo we got the Fantastic Suite this time. Given an upgrade to a Marvelous Suite initially, but it was the bland Glamourous scheme and as I wanted the funky, in your face G+A design I asked whether it's possible to downgrade and 'swap' with someone else who has a G+A Fantastic Suite.:p

Got a nice big Welcome sweets platter this time. Came in a saucepan laced with sunflower seeds, and lots more yummie goodies.

For wino fans, the W now has Wine-derlust Wednesdays. All you can drink wine for $180, 9-11pm Wednesdays. :D

QF009 is on the move again. I expect we shall be receiving a trip report Monsieur? In our last correspondence you indicated that you weren't sure if you would have the time to put one together. I think we are all in agreement that that's just not good enough :D So quit clubbin and start typin.

I've dared the other half to sign up and write a TR so we'll see...;) He's been taking lots of pics, and his pics are a lot better than mine. :o It'd not be my TR, but close enough. :D

checked out last night from W HKG.

Fantastic property, management and staff. I asked the hotel to provide a transportation from Airport to W Hotel and from W hotel to Westin Guangzhou

W employee was waiting for me outside luggage claim area, professional greeting asked me if i needed anything before going to the hotel, and walked me to the car. Audi Q7 was waiting in what is looked like a private area as there was no taxis or buses but many Bentley's and Audi's and Mercedes

25 min ride from the airport to the W hotel, cost 825 HKG dollars (all in)

at the hotel was greeted by the front desk manager and was escorted to the Marvelous suite ( i booked a cheap 1600 HKG dollar room). very nice suite and a panoramic view of the harbor and HKG island, i got glued to the windows:D

Unlike W TS in NY, this Hotel is spacious, bright and not noisy

the food at the hotel restaurant tasted very good and the service is 10/10

i could not get hold of Air Canada to make a change on my itinerary, the concierge took care of it. Air Canada were really tough, but the concierge was tougher she called Air Canada offices in HKG and Canada and UK to get me what i wanted.

the last night at the hotel ( 3 night stay), i got a phone call from whatever whenever asking me if there is any thing i needed before leaving tomorrow and confirmed my transportation to Westin Guangzhou.

checking out was very quick and the car was ready with newspapers, magazines, water, snacks and refreshment towel. the ride took 2 hr. and 15 min. and the cost was 3000 HKG dollars (all in)

well Definitely stay here again

We put the Whatever/Whenever service to the test this stay; we got W/W to pick up a pair of trousers for us at a TST store where it was being altered. The trousers could only be picked up by 7pm, we needed it by 7.15pm. Alas i guess W/W could do anything but control traffic and weather. :p We were warned that it was peak hour then and they'd try their best but can't guarantee a 7.15pm arrival. Rang W/W to check how they're going at 7.20pm to be told that the porter was stuck in traffic but was well on his way back. They got the trousers to us by 7.25pm, which is very good all things considered. ^ Even got a follow up call to check whether we'd received it. We were only required to pay for the porter's cab fare, but we gave him a tip anyway for all his trouble.

Well on our last night we got a nice scented candle, which is now sitting pretty in our lounge at home, along with a v sweet note from the Insider. Missing the place sooo much already. :( And combing for a reason to go back to HK soonish. :D

It seems like the W is indeed a very nice property.
Nevertheless , I have stayed so many times at the Sheraton ( in the Towers) that it is difficult for me to get to even try the W.
Frankly speaking the W location sucks ( except if you take the Airport Express , which I don't ) , and nothing beats walking out of the Sheraton Lobby onto Nathan Road and let yourself be sucked into the Kowloon crowd.
And frankly the rates at W seem even higher than at the Sharaton which , IMHO, is commercial suicide.
Just my 2 cents.
Enjoy HK anyway.

The prices are higher since the W is a far, far better hotel. After the economy comes back in HKG, I expect the W will get much busier. There are enough people in a good economy who want the W. You can say the same for the Pen, the MO, the FS, etc.

I for one avoid TST as much as possible. I took the other half there as it was his first time in HK. Reminded me why I never venture to that bit of town even though it seems a "must see." Just felt like screaming 'get out of my face' to all the people who popped up offering us everything under the sun that we don't want. Granted the upscale bits on Nathan Rd werre better, as were the pubs along Ashley Rd. But the whole place in general just gave both of us massive headaches and the creeps. Well, the hangover didn't help either. We both retreated into the first nice pub we found. :p

The W is one stop away from Central on the MTR, and LKF/SoHo a 10 mins walk after that. And that's good enough for me. ^

whatever, W is a mall hotel, some nice restaurants in there, but it is so close to Central and everything else that it does not matter. I truly do not see the advantage of the Sheraton location against the W.

stimpy Apr 17, 2009 10:24 pm

TST is pretty nasty. There are much nicer and more interesting areas of Kowloon. To me, the main advantage of the Sheraton is ease of access to the MTR. But the W has easier access to the airport express train and is a much, much nicer hotel.

I stayed 2 nights here on a business trip in march, loved both nights ^ I had planned for only one before continuing to Macau, but decided to come back from there one night early to spend it in the W and get back to HK airport truly refreshed.

The property very nice and conveniently located. The Fabulous room was ample with big window towards the harbour and the very nice Bliss amenities. The W bed was my first experience and the best bed I've slept in outside my home. Breakfast was was unbelievable.

Only thing that bothered me slightly, was the strong smell of incence(sp?) or some exotic wood in the lobby area.

All in all, a hotel just to my taste and my 1st choice whenever I may return to HK.

I'm glad you enjoyed it but IMO it was overpriced with no substance. Ritz brunch beats W HKG breakfast anyday

There's a Ritz in Hong Kong?

Any Ritz in the States will do.
