Anyone have a comparison of the W to the St Regis?

hhoope01 May 15, 2020 3:17 pm

There is at least one comparison in the https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...-maldives.html thread.
And there are a few in the https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...er-thread.html thread.

My booking (in early August) has been canceled.

The resort will be reopened in October 2020.

The same goes for all Marriott properties in the Maldives

A little late here, but what do you want to know?

I've stayed at STR x 2, W, and Westin...feel free to PM me.

It's a great question, and a reccuring one, so perhaps instead of PM you can share your takeaways publicly? Would be super helpful

Does anyone know if a Marriott Gift Card could be used towards the cost of seaplane ?

Hi everyone. I have a reservation scheduled for right after the resort opens in October. My potential problem is I'm flying home on Emirates and Dubai is requiring a negative PCR to even transit Dubai. I'd like to contact the W to see whether they'll be somehow offering / arranging for tests on property. But I cannot find anywhere an email contact. I tried [email protected] and that didn't work. Does anyone have an updated email address for the resort? Many thanks!

Thank you Christina. I used that email but have not yet heard back from hotel. Considering the testing requirements that Emirates Airlines / UAE are requiring for transit through Dubai, I might need to cancel my stay or change my departing flight if the hotel is not able to offer COVID tests on property during our stay. (I am also waiting to book my arriving flight until getting confirmation).

Does anyone know or have confirmation that the property will be able to offer testing on-site??? Thanks!

Just an update for anyone interested... I did receive an early pre-trip email from the resort. Their email address is actually [email protected]

And they will be offering COVID PCR tests, at a cost of $100.

isn’t the need to do a test on arrival no longer in place? It’s easy to get a test for free before getting on the plane to Male, though I thought they weren’t requiring them any more.

No need to test on arrival (at least from what I can see on official sites now). Although both Emirates and Etihad Airlines require a test within the past 96 hours before boarding. I know those are two of the most common carriers out of Male.

W to Conrad Transfer

Does anyone know if it's possible to transfer from the W to the Conrad just due south? We plan to stay at both next year and it seems like a hassle to have to go back to MLE

I suspect if it’s possible it would be by speedboat, probably at a shockingly high price. IIRC I saw some prices for speedboat transfers when I was there that were in the thousands. But you could ask each hotel and see what they say.
