Casuarina LD calls = $60-$70 or more per minute

lucky I have my cell phone, because long distance interstate/intrastate calls from this property are, drum roll...

Flat + $60 per minute + $3.50 access charge

I'm assuming there are taxes on top of this. I have no idea what the "flat" fee is.

Is this unique to the Casuarina, or are other Westins in this league?

Maybe the voice quality is really, really good

Anywhere else, I'd stay anyPLACE else. But, it's Vegas. If I'm there for a week slogging to a show and back I *really* like that I don't have to trek through a megacasino to the elevators etc, etc etc. That's fine when I'm on vacation. When I'm exhausted and just want to get to the room, it's a royal pain in the rump.

Maybe it's just me, I didn't expect much from the hotel and wasn't disappointed. The rooms were up to standards and were comfortable/not run down, the location avoids the worst of the hotel traffic, because it's not THAT huge the taxi lines never seem to be quite as long... I wouldn't stay there for leisure at all. They can call it what they want, that place is as resorty as Dubuque, IA.

Stayed there last week and just saw my credit card statement. We were billed $48 for the mini bar which we never opened. They agreed to remove the charge on my second phone call. Personally I will avoid this hotel in the future.

This will not be the last hotel who charges you something you never consumed. It's a hassle. My having to call to get charges removed rate is ~40%

I would say I'm at about 30-40% myself. Last sinner: Planet Hollywood Las Vegas who charged me for 4 Aquafina bottles, 4.95 each

Stayed here last week. Hotel was ok early check-in request was granted and rooms seems to be that of typical Westin, but like most rooms in Vegas you can tell a lot of people have passed through the room. The rubber ducky in the bathroom was a nice touch.

My only complaint, the guest across the hall way had a large dog that barked all night long. After repeated calls to the front desk nothing was done. Email sent to SPG with my concern.

Just spent a night there this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Room was nice, 4 p.m. checkout was offered without having to ask for it (let alone beg for it), and the Unwind lounge was a nice benefit. My one gripe was the smoke filled lobby and casino areas. There are signs all over the place touting a smoke free facility, yet they have ashtrays all over the place along with Westin Las Vegas matchbooks. I know it's Vegas, but at least take the signs down so it doesn't seem so foolish. So much for Breathe.

I e-mailed them last night to see how a property could be so grossly out of compliance with brand policies. I'll post their response when I hear back from them.

Just to follow up on my smoking complaint...

I e-mailed customer care and was told the hotel would reply within 5 days. They didn't. I e-mailed again and was forwarded the following e-mail:

GREETINGS MR. *******, I RECEIVED YOUR LETTER TOSTARWOOD AND WANT TO APOLOGIZE FOR THE UNPLEASANT STAYYOU HAD WITH US. BEING A LOYAL STARWOOD MEMBER YOU ARE WELL AWARE THAT THE WESTIN IS A SMOKE FREE HOTEL. IN THE UNITED STATES THERE ARE ONLY TWO PROPERTIES THAT ALLOW SMOKING IN THE CASINO AND THE CASINO BAR. WE ARE ONE OF THOSE PROPERTIES. WE DO NOT ALLOW SMOKING IN AND OF THE GUEST ROOMS LOBBY AREA OR 2ND FLOOR BY THE SPA, WORKOUT FACILITY. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MIGHT HAVE CAUSED. PERSONAL, INSTINCTIVE, RENEWAL FOTIS TSAGNIS HOTEL NIGHT MANAGER

Seems a bit weak to me as they are the ones with the smoke-free facility signs throughout the propery including at building entrances and throughout the first floor all around the casino floor. I probably would have just written the smokiness off to Vegas being Vegas had they not thrown a sign up every 15 feet telling me not to smoke because it's smoke-free. It's also a bit silly that they insist on differentiating between the lobby, casino, and restaurant as they are all in the same general area. I responded to Starwood with my concerns and will now count this as a lesson learned. Westin LV 1, Sam P. Goodman 0. Game over. I think I'll stick with PH.

A few posts on here mention free pizza in a lounge...is that a benefit for Plats? Any other regognizable benefits for Plats besides the traditional amenity (usually points for me)? How much farther down is this from the Planet Hollywood? I like the PH because it is usually the first stop on the Grayline shuttle from the airport. Im nervous Westin is going to be towards the end now!

Not sure about the pizza, but the WC is about a half-mile further down than the PH, and actually off the strip about a block and a half. It's pretty much catty-corner to the main entrance of Bally's. I've walked it a couple of times for meetings in less than 20 minutes.

BTW, given a choice, I'd stay at PH anytime.

The pizza is one of the snacks they have at the free happy hour in the early evening. I'm pretty sure it's a benefit for everyone, since they have never asked me for my key. Other than the standard amenities, I don't know of any for Plats.

Shotty

Charged me for bottled water during the week, called, removed. Charged me again AFTER I checked out, called, removed. Food was WAY below average for Vegas. Service below average for Starwood. Was upgraded to Resort room which was nice, upkept, and clean. My buddy had the strip suite, said he had stayed there before as the Aladdin and there were no changes to the room. He did have a view of the pool though, NICE VIEW!

No coffee or free water in room unlike the Westin.

PH is the best place for Platinums given suites but for Golds I'd book the Westin.
