Oh my. That would be a nasty surprise, expect to stay at the lovely shiny new W and ending up in the Cheap Elite Suite at the Four Points Miami Beach.

Do you have status with SPG? Even if you don't you should see if you can wriggle out of your 4Pts room and get in at the W.

Been Plat for last 6 years...no recognition at all. No upgrade to the CE suite!

The Four Points Miami Beach chalks up another victim. From the sounds of it though you got a lucky escape not getting that particular room. How is your room? Does it have a flat screen? Maybe you could make up for my poor show and get some pictures?

This hotel tries to screw me up

I booked a stay using FNI promotion nights. I arrived there at about 1am after a tiring day. When I went up to the desk, the reception woman told me that she cannot find my reservation using my name. Then I showed her my confirmation # via the email at the computer station. She said the confirmation number was not in her system. I was already so freaking tired and she had to hold me up with an attitude for the reservation trouble. Then I called the Platinum concierge and finally the concierge told me to hand over my phone so she can talk to the front desk there. The front desk woman still insisted that there is no such reservation in the system and that there is no way to book a free night. After battling for this for so long (almost 45 minutes) she finally gave up and listened to the Platinum concierge to help me rebook using the right code. After that she was giving me a hard time about the valet parking there how the ticket they gave me wasn't right. Again, another 15 min... Sigh by the time I got into the ugly room I was too tired to even complain about how bad the condition was.

Honestly, I had a feeling that the reception lady just wanted to play a trick with me so that instead of using a free night she wanted me to pay real dollar last minute for a room seeing how tired I was. That hotel just gave me the WORST experience ever with starwood. So this is a warning for everyone. Don't stay there. This hotel is crap and treats you like crap.

I think you've just won our nonexistent contest on "worst place to redeem a summer free night". :(

Im happy to say Ive Never set foot into this place. I unfortuantely cant say that about some other no longer standing Hotels that were in the same area

Having said this, I can see where to some people its worth using a free cert or actually paying to stay there

W/o going into details its by 41st St which some people need to be close to and driving or being driven isnt an option

yea The Eden Roc is just a few blocks North but not everyone wants to pay that kind of $$ or have MR pts for free nights (Cat6)

So in a few very rare occasions I can fully understand that some people might not have any other choice especially over a weekend (or Fri & Sat nights)

I'd sooner sleep on/in a bus stop, with Dick Cheney, in the middle of downtown miami during a category 6 hurricane, than step foot in this hell hole!

The problem isn't just the rooms are bad. The staff is horrible. The management has a poor attitude. The hotel is fairly expensive. The parking situation is bad. I guess I could go on but you can probably figure it out from this HUGE thread.

It would be so nice to see the hotel demolished and a Westin or Sheraton built in it's place. With the Sheraton Bal Harbor gone and turning into a St. Regis and the new W I think *wood is going to upscale in this market and could use some nice midrange properties.

:D You really got me cracking up and definitely agree. Only hotel in my lifetime where the hotel staff stole right out of my luggage.

Not that bad

I hate to somewhat disagree with the title of this thread calling it a 'problematic hotel', but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents here.
I understand that it's quite a old hotel, and having been upgraded to a suite there, I admit that even that is none too nice, (especially by comparing it to staying in a beautiful Hilton Grand Vacations hotel in Orlando the next night),nevertheless, for those who say that Spg should get rid of them, I disagree, since as others have pointed out, it is located near 41st street, and that is a good location for some on some nights, and for those who still would rather not stay there, thankfully, spg now has the W on 20th street.
As for my experience back in January, even though the hotel was nearly sold out, when I arrived at the hotel, i was told 'in a friendly fashion' that i was upgraded to a King Suite , even though I had only paid for a standard room city view, and only have gold status. When i realized that I didn't have a ocean view, which I was NOT entitled to, I went down to inquire about the possibility of getting one, and the lady behind the desk (I believe her name was Michelle)was sympathetic, but nicely explained that they were holding those, for 13 different Platinum guests,(so in my opinion that seems to discredit those that say that the hotel doesn't respect platinums, and doesn't give them suites) but she even advised me with whom to talk to in the morning to see if anything opens up.
So I spent the night in my upgraded room, and the next morning I spoke to asst. Manager, ANNA,who was helpful and told me that the hotel is going to be sold out later in the day, but she can transfer me to a standard room with a nice Ocean View room, with a large porch, (which is almost like having a second room). She allowed me to check out the room, and after I agreed to transfer there, she had someone assist me a little later to move the baby crib, and even had someone bring in a fridge to the standard room, even I had only paid for a standard room, which doesn't come with a fridge.
On another occasion, Anna was helpful again in assisting a friend, and upgrading him to a Juniour Suite with Ocean view, without having status, so I did find a couple members of the staff to be quite helpful, and didn't run into anyone nasty.
Sorry if I have something nice to write about the hotel:), and have to disagree with some of you.
