This is what I get when I check day-by-day:

12th - property is not accepting arrivals for Wednesday on one-night stays
12th & 13th - superior room available with 2 double beds only
14th - superior room available with king bed only
15th - property is not accepting arrivals for Saturday on one-night stays
15th & 16th - superior room available with 2 double beds only
17th - superior room available with 2 double beds or king bed

It is mirrored this way on the web site as well.

That's interesting. Thanks William.

So is there an official solution in this case, to book a 5th night free award?

(And given that bed types are never a guarantee on award stays, does that make it simpler...)

You might ask your Ambassador to see if the property is willing to work to make this happen, but the difference in superior room types (2 beds as opposed to one) available over the 5 nights is going to be a tough nut to crack.

Your path of least resistance is to book a specialty award and get into a king-bedded deluxe room. It can currently be booked for all 5 nights with the 5th night free.

I made my suggestion to Keyser above.

(And given that bed types are never a guarantee on award stays, does that make it simpler...)
Nope. Not over the web anyway.

Thanks!

I learned something new today, regarding multiple kinds of "base category" award rooms!

Yup, that's what it seems like.

A specific bed type is not guaranteed by the hotel when checking in for a SPG award in a base category room.

But you do need a very very specific bed type to book the same base category SPG award room!!

Thumbs up Excellent property

We just finished a stay here and were rather impressed. Service was consistently excellent, whether from the front desk, butler, or F&B outlets.

The understated luxury and contemporary decor reminded us more of a Park Hyatt than a St. Regis, which we really appreciated, since sadly there isn't a Park Hyatt in town.

The Platinum breakfast benefit was ample. The standard offering is their continental breakfast that consists of pastries and coffee, but they proactively offered to customize and were happy to offer fruit, granola, and other choices.

Would not hesitate to return.

Anyone familiar with typical rates at this property? Well, actually, I'm mainly wondering what the lowest rates you've seen for this property have been (whether it be starpicks, or off-season weekdays).

I'm using the flexible dates, and most dates showing $500+.... a $425 end of Dec, but I didn't really go day by day (just a few random dates).

I'm thinking of using the 25% off award from attaining gold status for a stay here, if rates really are that high (since I'd really cringe at paying cash for that high a price)

Thanks in advance!

It is $348 using SPG50--worth it for 1,000 points--available most days in December. If that is too much, then you should look at other properties. Used to be in the high $200s during the financial crisis but the hotel market in SF is doing very well now and rates at this property don't go below $325 these days.

Consistently terrible property

Just wrapping up my second stay here in the last six months. Both times, it took me over 10 mins before the FD would acknowledge my existence and another 10 before someone would offer to check me in. Neither time was the FD particularly busy with guests, but I never made a fuss. Zero platinum recognition both times. My upgrade to an Astor Suite was as well maintained as the superior room I had the last time. Each stay, I had the following same problems: broken TVs, broken light switches, broken internet. About the only thing different between stays was the fact that their butler service busted into my room to perform turndown service, whilst I was asleep. I spoke w/ the GM, who had convinced me to move my stay from LM SF back to this property, but it was a big mistake. He had sent engineers to fix things whilst I was away. Switches and internet still broken (the router wasn't configured properly). Now, having stayed at all of SPG's properties in the area (save for Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf), I can easily say W SF is the best, most consistent property. Sad.

wrote this email to the GM this morning as I have stayed here a dozen times this year and have generally enjoyed the service but have started to get frustrated by the service lapses:

I was writing because I experienced several service failures at your property recently and I wanted to bring them to your attention, as I have stayed at the property 4 times in the past 6 weeks, and have an upcoming 4 night stay at the property in a week and a half, and after the issues I recently experienced, I am hesitant to keep my reservation.

The issues are with respect to my stay from Sept 27-29. I was placed in a room on the 18th floor, facing out on the construction taking place at MOMA. When I got to my room, the sounds of jackhammers and heavy machinery was so loud, but I didn't complain, as it was a Friday evening, and I figured the noise would cease for the weekend. However, I was awoken at 7am on Sat morning to the sound of heavy machinery. My previous stay I was also placed in a construction-facing room on the 13th floor, but the noise was not present. That was not the case this time. I called down to complain about the noise but was told that the hotel was fully committed and there were no other rooms to switch to. That might have been the case, but this particular room should have simply been taken out of inventory altogether, as I asked people from downstairs to come up to the room to fully comprehend how loud it was.

The lady at the front desk offered to have some coffee sent up since I was awoken, and I did not end up getting the coffee until 9:45AM! And I had called downstairs at 7:15AM. A similar request for an ironing board took an hour as well. I was unable to stay in the room during the day as the noise made accomplishing any work impossible. When I came back to my room at 7:45pm Sat night and the noise was still coming from the site next door, I had finally had enough and asked to speak to a manager. The manager agreed that the noise did not in any way allow for the peaceful enjoyment of my room and agreed to not charge me for the night.

There was also the issue of the Platinum breakfast- the card I am given, and the rules under the SPG program state that the breakfast includes juice, tea, coffee, yogurt, cereal and a selection of pastries. However, at Vitrene, I am told I can only order the continental breakfast which is simply a collection of pastries offering nothing in terms of nourishment. I have brought this up each time I have stayed at the property and to this date, nothing has improved with respect to the platinum breakfast. I have been hesitant to open a customer service complaint with SPG as I wanted to give the property the opportunity to remedy the situation, but that has not occurred.

Finally, although my folio indicated that I was not charged for my second night of my stay, my credit card was charged for both nights, and despite calling the hotel three times to get the charge removed, to this day it has not been credited back and no one at the property has gotten back to me as they said they would. I want my credit card to be refunded for the second night's charge, as I was promised, and as my final folio displayed. I am reaching out to you to ensure that these issues are rectified, as the St Regis is a beautiful property, but as a person who has a choice of many wonderful hotels in the SOMA area including Four Seasons and Ritz, it will take a much better effort on the part of the staff before I will stay again. I hope to hear back from you in the near future. Best regards.

Respectfully,
Taipeiflyer

Juice, coffee, and a few pastries for $29!

That makes the continental breakfast buffet at the Mandarin Oriental which includes several proteins a bargain at only $23:

taipeiflyer, maybe you should send the Mandarin Oriental menu over to the St. Regis manager and let them know what a continental breakfast looks like a true luxury hotel. Or better yet, ditch the St. Regis, book the Four Seasons through a FS Preferred Partner agent and get complimentary full American breakfast in the restaurant or through room service.
