The IC Citystars is a good hotel, and if you're travelling with family you can get 2 bedroom apartments. It has a great pool area, and direct access to Citystars, but I fail to understand why any tourist would stay in Heliopolis unless wanting close access to the airport.
RA recognition is pretty good at the Citystars too.

just an update....finished a one night stay here yesterday....was upgraded to an executive suite & was offered both the 500 amenity points & the free breakfast....property is definitely old & the room furniture & walls were showing their age....but for a one night stay close to the airport it was sufficient....i wouldn't hesitate to stay here again....

Any new info on Cairo "Woods"??
Greetings:
We plan to spend three nights at LM Pyramids and then switch to LM Heliopolis for our last night and a 5AM flight.
We will not be doing any sightseeing, etc do to an illness since booking our flights RTW, plan to just hang out at pool, etc ??
Does this make sense?.
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.......I am Life Plat., our dates will be Nov.12-16.................Thanks, TT

Staying at the very nicely renovated Le Meridien Pyramids for a few days. Received a two-room (one bathroom) suite that isn't super large but is nice and has a great view of the pyramids.
Free full breakfast + free non-alcoholic drinks at the lobby bar + normal amenity choice for platinum guests.
They said that the top floors will be renovated soon (they said they're 70% done as of now, mid-August 2012). When the renovation is complete they'll have a Le Royal Club rooms available with a separate lounge. Right now it's a free full breakfast buffet in the restaurant which has quite a few choices.

I don't think the lounge will ever happen at Meridien Pyramids Hotel.I was talking to GM recently and they have other plans for that space. Still no shops open yet but the area is ready and I think the new bar area will open soon. If you are SPG Plat you get free breakfast as well as 500 points. Also they now have " green option " for housekeeping but staff are a bit confused with how it works at the moment. Area around the hotel is still safe despite what is happening in Cairo.

Le Meridien Heliopolis
I had a 12-hour lay over in Cairo on the 4th of July, one day post coup. Needless to say, I felt a bit of trepidation, but everything went extremely smoothly. I had arranged an airport meet & greet service and pick up with the hotel's wonderful general manager, Mamdouh Faraj. I was met when I got off the plane by the hotel rep, who got my visa and luggage and took me to the shuttle. At check in, Marina, the ever-gracious club-floor supervisor, offered me a suite, but since it faced the front of the hotel (on the main road) I opted for a quieter room at the back. As others have said, the furnishings could stand to be updated (which, I was told, is scheduled to happen once the Meridien at the airport opens), but are nice enough. The club lounge is small and has meagre offerings for happy hour, but being offered a delicious fresh mango juice made up for any shortcomings. Since I had a 4am flight, I was offered a breakfast box, which, unfortunately, I forgot in the 1am-scrum to get back to the airport. All in all, I had a much better experience than I had anticipated and highly recommend this hotel for those with a short transit times in Cairo.

Thinking of the LM Pyramids in Jan or Feb 14...arriving perhaps on BA form LHR which lands at 2345. How long would that ride be and does the LM offer a meet and greet (from the plane) as a poster had with the LM Heliopolis?
Also, assuming the ride is safe at that hour?
Thanks!

I did have the LM Heliopolis meet and greet and was very impressed by how smooth the whole thing was, a definite plus in my book, despite the lacking hard product.

Even if the LM don't offer Meet and Greet (I haven't used it with them) it can be booked via CAI airport's website.

Meet and greet meridien pyramids
Hi
I frequently stay at Meriden Pyramids hotel and each time I book I'm ask if I want a meet and greet service. I've never used it as friends always meet me. I'm sure if you email the hotel it can be arranged. Travel time at that time of night is about 45 minutes usually. Travel by the ring road if possible as less traffic. Also I would try not to travel on a Friday as that's the day most demonstrations occur. If you are going to be in Cairo in Jan or Feb do take something warm for evening as it does get cold. Nows a good time to visit as so few tourists. I was there November and didn't feel unsafe as a single female.
