PHL, these posts scare me too! Now I am torn on where to stay.

During my dates around Oktoberfest, the LM is 10,000 points per night or 310 Euro. The FP Munich is 7000 pts/night or 340 Euro! Putting aside the high rates as it is, how can the FP justify charging more than the LM!?!?

It gets better...the FP has a C&P rate of $45 USD + 2800 points/night. I can't overlook that low rate, given the reason I'm there (and not taking any significant other to impress). So, it looks like I'm going back for 4 nights during Oktoberfest this year for $180 and 11,200 points all in. Am I a glutton for punishment?
Well, if you've been before you know the FP is located DIRECTLY off the Oktoberfest fairgrounds. The cost is for the location.

I stayed in October 2007 when it was a Cat 2 and that was really an amazing points redemption during the fest. Sure the hotel was ordinary (sorry, no review for that one) but the location for our purpose could not be beat!

But unlike the LM, the FP is offering cash + points at an extraordinary low rate ($45 + 2800 pts). I just can't pass that up when the rates are over 300 EUR per night - even if the hotel is sub par....

I stayed there one month ago. They upgraded me to a renovated executive room on the 3rd floor (sounds like a similiar room as "EWR ATC Hold" mentioned a few posts above). I arrived early in the morning and this room was already available at that time compared to the preassigned room on the 5th floor. Minibar (softdrinks and beer) and internet were free of charge.

After reading this thread and having stayed there around 3 years ago, I had expected the worst. I would not mind staying there again. If I consider the low rate and very early checkin, I was quite satisfied. The room lacks atmosphere though it was rather spacious and rather new. If you go there with low expectation, it may turn out to be better than expected.

Stayed here for a couple of nights recently. Was given a huge room, with tiny beds relatively speaking. You may argue it's a junior suite - with a separate dressing area and a large balcony. (I'm a Gold.)

If the weather isn't bad, it's a good 10-minutes walk from Central Station. There's a LM right at the station though, so if the rates aren't too bad, the LM may be a more handy choice.

This 4Pts did have free mini-bars (refilled each day) and free breakfast. Staff was quite friendly too.

If you're after a cheap rate, this isn't a bad choice, but there're heaps of hotels around this area.

I am torn here... I am getting a good rate for an executive room with the "free mini bar" but I am not sure if its worth it...

20 Euros more I can stay at the sheraton westpark which I have always been happy with... Like being slightly outside of downtown...

I haven't been at the FP for about 4 years... I am guessing it has gone further downhill than it was... plus the area is slightly sketch...

Depends on what you plan to do in Munich, I suppose... My stay was my only stay at this property, so I can't really say if it's got better or worse.

The mini-bar thing is cool, but it's my first time staying at a hotel where the mini-bar is free. Bear in mind that the mini-bar isn't overly well stocked. From memory, there were a couple of juices, cokes, some other soft drinks, a couple of candy bars and a couple of beers. No heavy alcohols. There were also a couple bottles of water...

The breakfast spread was standard hotel affair, nothing exciting but free nonetheless.

Not sure what you mean by the area is 'sketch'. While I didn't have any problems from the station to the hotel, the streets were tidy and clean. There were a couple of small casinos and sex shops near the station, but I didn't have any issues walking around there late at night. We arrived at about 10pm, and I actually wanted to catch a taxi from the station to the hotel as I didn't know where the hotel was. The large number of taxi drivers waiting at the station collectively pointed out the way as the hotel was that close.

Having said that, I did get the feeling that there's an undercurrent, another side of the area that I didn't experience and didn't mind missing.

My $.02

I have just stumbled in here trying to get some comparison reviews between LM and FP for Oktoberfest next year, and have to say I'm fairly surprised by the negative reviews here. We stayed for the fest last year, and it was a totally acceptable place. Carpet, linens and general condition were all just fine. Service was good all around. Good bar downstairs. I certainly wouldn't classify it as a top notch affair, but completely acceptable place to stay for teh beerfest and certainly a far cry from "a week in hell" as someone so eloquently stated.

I think the main thing is that this hotel has been recently renovated. I have not stayed there since the renovation, but believe from the pictures that the place is much better than it used to be.

Free Minibar

Free Minibar at this hotel: Is no longer.

I called and asked. They said that no longer are minibars in the renovated rooms. And thus, no longer free minibar for Platinums. What a pity, it would have been a reason for me to stay there next week

Any updates on recent stays at this property? I am getting a decent rate (when comparing to other Starwoods in the city), and its my first time in the city as well. Is the area really sketchy as some other posts suggest? I am intersted to be close to the old part of town and nightlife.

I used to be a VIP guest at this property. I now live in a flat and do not live in a hotel in Munich. However, I still like this property. I think it has a decent location dependent upon your desired tourist attractions.

Considering it is your first time, I would be happy to meet you for a welcome to the city and show you around. Please send me a PM.

No complimentary breakfast for Platinum

Just stayed at that hotel for one night on May 29 , thought it would provide complimentary breakfast for platinum, so cancelled Le Meridien (regreted now... as the rate that day was only 30 euro higher).

Previous posts about complimentary breakfast for platinum members were not correct!

The breakfast is about 20Euro each! Not worth!
Please go to Westin.

Very far away from the station comparing to Le Meridien.
