Points given with $0 spend
I recently stayed 3 nights at the Aloft Novena Singapore on a points reward stay.
I had no charges to the room whatsoever, and when I checked out it was confirmed there was no amount due.
Today, when checking my Marriott account, I see:
Aloft Singapore Novena
Jan 15, 2026 - Jan 18, 2026 3 Nights
383 Points
255 Base
128 Elite
0 Extra
Any idea where these came from? There are no after-check-out charges from the hotel to my credit card.

You still earn points on a redemption booking (I also had to double check my account and indeed I have received points for redemption bookings).

The thing to check is that they did not also charge your cc instead of Marriott.
Assuming that everything else was done correctly, then it is up to you whether to flag the error.

Guests who redeem loyalty points at your hotel trigger a limited reimbursement to you from the loyalty program. We derive revenue as a result of certain Marriott Bonvoy partnerships with other companies. You must honor all program rules and policies at your expense, including policies relating to benefits for various tiers and categories of members (such as welcome gifts, discounted or complimentary room nights, and other services), mandatory marketing programs, and promotional initiatives.

Regardless of whether the breakfast amount was partially reimbursed by Marriott, it is certainly possible that simply having a breakfast charge post to the folio and then be offset by an internal credit still resulted in points accruing for the posted breakfast amount. I have had that happen with both breakfast and other F&B (such as F&B covered by a $100 STARS/FHR credit -- normally only the net amount earns points, but sometimes the pre-credit amount does). YMMV.

Had this happen twice in 2025, both hotels in Asia.
First redemption stay was in BKK. Two nights (one with a 40,000 certificate and one night points). Earned 2k ish points plus elite bonus.
Second was in Indonesia. 5 night points redemption earned 4k ish points plus elite bonus.
No charges to my credit card or account for either stay. Could it be possible the security deposit is being mistaken as revenue and therefore points applied?
