marriott.com very unstable - cannot complete a simple transaction.

I cannot get a simple booking done through the marriott website. The issues have been going on since this morning and include:

1. Several attempts needed to even sign in
2. The error "It’s us. Not you. We couldn’t complete your request. Please try again later."
3. When making the booking after putting my credit card information, i get the error:
An unexpected error has occurred
This service is temporarily unavailable. But don't worry, we're on it. Please try again later.

Anybody else having this issue?

Marriott doesn't really own or run any properties. All it does is maintain a brand, a loyalty program, and a reservation service. Amazing: it sucks at all of those relatively simple tasks.

I would make sure the reservation actually did not make it through. This has happened to me where it tells me it failed and/or error but then I find the reservation in my account?

Wasn't Marriott going to revamp its IT system if it weren't for the Starwood merger? I am surprised that they still haven't got around to it but I have heard the CEO talk about it in a recent interview.

Unfortunately, it is routine to have issues with the MR website. Lots of "server" timeouts and other errors. Sometimes starting a new session in an incognito window or in a different browser (FireFox instead of Chrome) helps. It forces establishing a new session with the backend servers for the website. At other times it is just a global outage. It is frustrating. Sidebar note, IHG has similar issues with their website. Perhaps Marriott and IHG are subcontracting to the same provider for their web services.

I’ve been trying to update my profile on marriott.com for weeks now. Every time I try, it sends me to the page asking me to combine accounts.

Yes... they 'revamped' it by forcing the Marriott IT over any good things things that Starwood had on the backend for functionality/interface etc.

The usual things I see >25% of the time when trying to just view rates and rooms at hotels...

I know the site loads in Chrome looking like it fell off the truck and got run over on the way to my screen.

I have more than a dozen bookings, with three big trips coming up. Once a while I go to see each of those bookings, in case the rate drops then I change. But it's so frequent that it's unable to display, with error message, or the "Update" button doesn't work, doesn't do anything.

Marriott seems to work well for doing initial bookings. But after that trying to display/update bookings, it seems so buggy.

Believe it or not, there are still some corporate locations left. I was recently at the Courtyard Orlando/I-Drive, and was surprised to see it was Marriott-owned, Marriott-managed. Old property built in 1990, but it was immaculately maintained. Staff were all wearing uniforms and attentive. So, someone at Marriott still remembers how it's supposed to be.

I also agree -- Marriott is nothing more than a broker these days. At one time they also had brand standards, but it's been ages since that's been enforced. (RI New Orleans still doesn't do breakfast after 3 years) Even the dodgiest online-booking sites seem to have better reliability and performance than Marriott.com.

Can’t conduct a hotel search on Marriott app

Marriott IT is broken now - just doing a search from the app is returning zero hotels for a location that I know there are hotels. The app and website surely share back end services to return search data so it is likely broke across the board.
