Marriott Property Bed Bugs

Just checked into a Marriott property in Chicago. A bed bug scare in a rental apartment about 5 years ago changed how I operate my life. So, as I've done every hotel stay since — my first order of business was to tear the bed apart. Immediately found blood stains and some dead bed bugs in the piping of one mattress. Nothing crawling and looked like an older mattress/this had been there for a while. But, of course, that doesn't mean anything when it comes to this.

Left the room immediately, found the manager and let them know. Informed them that they should reach out to their exterminator/specialist and keep housekeeping out of the room and not to move anything in or out. They were very receptive and apologetic, said they'd block off adjacent rooms, moved me to a new room (I didn't feel the need to demand an entirely new property because I'm out in the AM & probability seems about even of a repeat situation in a new room far away vs property across the street), promised 50K bonus points for the disturbance, etc.

Do I have a responsibility to contact anyone else or post this on Trip Advisor, etc? Should I have done more/less/something different? Let me know!

The odds of you picking up bed bugs are just as good on the airplane or a movie theater. I am not going into details but most good properties like all Marriotts do things now to kill and find bed bugs before you do. You probably could figure it out with a good internet search. Heck I will share one. If you see a power strip on the floor it does more than feed power to the bedside light fixtures.

And unless you enjoy destroying jobs and reputations and businesses I would stay off tripadvisor.

This response seems very reasonable to me. You reported the issue, the manager promptly responded and 50k points strikes me as an appropriate amount of compensation.

I do not see any further action being required.
