Which year do nights from a stay post if you start dec 31st?

The start date of the the stay is the 31st but we check out the 2nd? is that a 2019 stay or does it count as 2020?

All bets are off with the current state of Bonvoy IT, but in the past the system was smart enough to credit 12/31 in the prior year and 1/1+ in the following year.

Stay will be credited to 2019. However I don't know if just one or nights would credit to 2019.

Ah, the familliar chime of the annual FT tradition towards the end of the year asking what happens to nights around New Year. Very comforting indeed like putting on an old sweater.

Nights up to and including December 31 will credit to 2019 and nights from January 1 will credit to 2020 irrespective of checkin and checkout dates.

We will now hear various anecdotes of stays that have not posted like this and they may or may not be factually accurate based on our experience of Marriott IT. But do bear in mind that they are only anecdotes and the T&Cs are clear on this so if - for whatever reason - your stay over New Year does not post as described above then you should either keep quiet about it if it's in your favour or you can call Customer Support to fix it.

Are you concerned about night credits or a stay credit? Unlike the old SPG program, Starriott/Bonvoy counts nights, not stays, for elite status, although sometimes promos are based on stays.

Does a stay on December 31st count as a night for 2019 status?

I have 74 nights booked and a 1 night stay from December 31-January 1. Will that count as a 75th night for 2019 or will that be 1 night in 2020? I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find a thread discussing it.

Ok... I ask because online chat told me otherwise but I honestly value FT opinion over Marriott's CSRs lol.

It counts for 2019. I did the same thing last year. My stay was the last week of the year and went into the new year. They separated the days to post for each year.

Ah, here we are. I was getting anxious that nobody had asked this annual question yet. It's quite a tradition on here every December.

I searched "december 31" in this section and went 5 pages deep without finding anything. I also first spoke to Marriott before asking here where I was given incorrect information. I understand that you've seen the question here before but don't you think your comment is unnecessary?

Here you go. It can be hard to find a thread even when you know one exists.

No. The second part of the tradition are responses like mine. Both question and response are time-honoured with a long and illustrious history. Nothing to be upset about.
