Seriously, who smokes anymore? It's trashy and gross and if you knew how you smelled (and how other people instantly label you a loser) you'd quit yesterday. Pay up. If anyone called security about me smoking on a balcony where it is permitted, I would probably have a good laugh and offer the guards a cigarette for their wasted time. |

I’m sure your balanced use of language will be deeply appreciated in any future submissions. Oh, BTW .... In case you hadn’t noticed, the subject of this thread is about the application of room-cleaning charges, and not your personal perspectives. Do please enjoy the Labo[u]r Day weekend. EDIT = Warning. We will be smoking in Virginia with effect from Tuesday. ;) |

Is marijuana legal in Nevada? The website looks to have an outdated policy because it says "and other illegal drugs."
I would say banning marijuana for medicinal purposes may end up going to court someday. Marijuana in that case is basically medication. |
Non-smoker here: the OP was smoking in a place where smoking is allowed. He wasn't smoking in the room. He was using the ashtrays. I don't see why some people are so offended by this thought. I don't like smoking but it's not like the OP was standing under a non-smoking sign while smoking or purposefully blowing smoke into a non-smoking area. Or like happened to me in a hotel last summer where someone on my floor was smoking marijuana so heavily in their room it filled up the entire floor with smoke - at a completely non-smoking hotel.
If I expect the OP to be courteous enough not to smoke where it's not allowed, I should be courteous enough to not get offended when he uses the places where it clearly is allowed. |

Another irrelevant thought...
There's a lot of negative talk about smokers on this thread. I am vehemently not a smoker. Yeah, I smoked part of a joint in this event, but I do not smoke nor have I ever smoked. In my life, I have engaged in smoking-related activities a dozen or two times and always split whatever I smoke with others. I can quite easily notice the lingering smell of smoke. My dad was a heavy indoor smoker and died from smoking-related illnesses. We smoked on day 1 of a three day stay. There was zero lingering smell of smoke in the room. |

So here's some more thoughts....
There were 4 of us on the balcony and who shared one joint. While this is apparently not permitted by state law, this is not what we were being charged with. While I did participate in this activity, I am absolutely not a smoker. I think I've smoked probably 10 cigarettes in my life and marijuana even less often. I absolutely do understand how the smell of smoke can permeate. There is absolutely no way that the room required any deep cleaning. By the time security showed up we had long finished smoking. Had I lied they would have never been able to prove that we had smoked on their balcony as their was no evidence. Security was annoyed because they insisted we surrender all of our marijuana but we had none to surrender. Anyone on here can make whatever assumptions they want about what actually happened that night, but because nobody here has any say in the final outcome of this, I see no reason why I should lie. We were very quiet and it wasn't even 10PM.

Btw, I think if you had mentioned "weed" vs. "smoke" in the first post, I don't think this thread would have devolved into the normal back and forth of the public smoking debate. I do find it funny that somebody would complain about smoking in Vegas - you literally can't get a away from smokers and smoked-filled rooms in Las Vegas. Here's my positive take on the thread. It's Vegas! Buy an oral spray or a topical transdermal. |

Since OP is smoking weed which is not allowed in hotels, then it's not allowed on hotel balcony either. The "smoke on balcony only" sign then does not apply to weed. That's why the security can threaten to throw them out.
With the security documenting the incident, to be safe, I'm pretty sure they performed a cleaning. How much effort that takes, it's a different matter. After all, if they can make money off this, it's likely they will just do it. |

They shouldn’t have ashtrays in a non-smoking room or on a non-smoking rooms deck. If I was given that room I would assume I was given a smoking room, at least in the US. We have ashtrays on non-smoking aircraft for the same reason, or do you assume that you're always on a smoking plane? |
Just curious whether the charge was made on OP’s credit card or debit card. If it was a debit card all the talk about initiating a chargeback is moot, because debit card transactions are final and cannot be charged back as these cards are not covered by the Fair Credit Billing Act. |

Nothing can stop a smoker who decides they want to smoke in a non-smoking room. What's the alternative to an ashtray, just have the room go up in flames?
