Hotel Escondido, Design Hotels - Puerto Escondido, Mexico [Master Thread]

Cat 7. Hotel website:

https://www.marriott.com/hotels/trav...design-hotels/

"A natural jewel nestles between the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range that snakes through the Mexican state of Oaxaca. A top-ten surfing and popular fishing destination, the tiny coastal town of Puerto Escondido invites with its laid-back atmosphere and beachside vibe. Hoteliers Carlos Couturier and Moisés Micha, the duo behind Grupo Habita, have transformed a pristine stretch of Oaxacan coastline into a private paradise for beach bums and thrill seekers alike. Individual palapa bungalows with private plunge pools encourage local-style indulgence in this Oaxacan village by the sea."

Well, if it's not excluded by policy, it is excluded by practice.

Wondering if anyone has stayed here recently (or at all)? I have a 5 nights points booking 23rd to 28th December (240K, which I think was pretty good). Hoping to be able to go. Thanks

Interesting. I remember as a teen all the surfing magazines had photos from here. It is a surf Mecca in Mexico and a lot of American expats are here.

I was looking to book at this hotel, but if you want Marriott Bonvoy points, you cannot book directly on the hotel's website. You have to book though Marriott.com.

The only rate available that earns Bonvoy points is 100% nonrefundable. So if you book at this hotel, be 100% certain you are going.

However, with COVID uncertainties, I only book cancellable or refundable rooms. So this hotel is a pass for me.

I suspect the rate you are getting is nonrefundable because of the time of year you are booking. If you look in say May ‘22 you would see refundable rates on the Marriott website.

Nope. Not true at all. This is a booking in May.

Check out the screenshot.

Hello Xero,

Thank you for your patience.

Kindly advise that the standard guarantee and cancellation policies of a Participating Property will apply to Award Redemption Stay reservations. We can see that the cancellation policy for points redemption is the same for the standard rate at Hotel Escondido, Puerto Escondido, a Member of Design Hotels. Therefore, it’s correct.

Hello, I actually wasn't looking for a checkup or anything. But thank you for checking.

The reason I made my post is to warn users that the so-called Flexible Rate offered by this hotel is non-refundable. In fact, this hotel only offers rates that are 100% non-refundable. There is no date that is refundable at this hotel when booking via Marriott.com.
