Making Platinum

Hi - I will be just 3 nights away from making Platinum for 2022. Has anyone experienced Bonvoy either making exceptions or allowing customers to buy up when they are that close? Or am I stuck at Gold yet another year… or utilizing my Globalist status at Hyatt more in the future 😗. Thanks.

Marriott is not known for making exceptions. Now I am not going to say that they never made an exception before, but it is definitely very, very difficult to get.

Find a cheap hotel and do a mattress run. Even if you use points, it counts for elite nights.

To minimize the chance of something going wrong, be sure to check into the hotel in person.

Also, remember, you can only earn 1 elite night per night. Multiple rooms on the same night do not count.

I don't recall seeing any data points on this subject, but given all the elite nights that Marriott has given away this year, I would be surprised if they gave out more. You should have got 13 for being Gold last year, 15-30 depending on whether you have 1 or 2 credit cards so you could have got 43 nights without spending a night in a hotel.

I agree with Xero. You have time to get 3 night in before year end. Find a cheap hotel, or something that doesn't require too many points. Good luck.

I hope they don't give it away. After all the bonus nights they gave, there is zero reason they should. If they do, I'd be rather upset as I spent over $1000 in unnecessary spend to get Ambassador.

If you are still 3 short given all the bonus nights this year is it really worth it? Hyatt globalist is a better status so unless you are going to stay at marriotts a lot next year the benefits aren’t that great.

I have been pleasantly surprised with Platinum. No more arguing about late checkout and overall better service. But YMMV and Globalist may cover all your needs.

Thanks all. I should have clarified that my total 2021 balance of 47 nights will include a stay ending on 12/30, so no time for a mattress run, etc. I’ll try giving the Bonvoy desk a call just to see what they say, but will expect to remain at Gold none the less. Agree that my recent stays as Hyatt Globalist has been more beneficial than when I was Bonvoy platinum in past years.

You're right, but one room at multiple properties would net you more than 1 EQN per property booked. Last time I did that was 31/12/2019. This might help you, OP.

Program terms you can only stay in 1 property per night and get credit. Sometimes it slips through cracks.

There are reports of this happening when booking at multiple hotels, getting multiple elite nights on the same night.

However, this is extremely inconsistent. You are literally depending on Marriotts terrible IT to work in your favor.

It becomes a literal gamble. And if the gable does not work, Marriott support will not help you.
