One Bangkok: A Mega-Development with Rising Expectations

"News concerning two of the hotels due to open at One Bangkok has already been revealed, with the first brand staking its claim being the Ritz-Carlton. This 259-room property (due to occupy levels 1 to 25 of a 50-storey building) will be the first Ritz-Carlton in the Thai capital. Designed to be a truly urban resort, the proposed floorplan boasts four distinct restaurants and bars, alongside a signature Ritz-Carlton Spa complete with luxurious treatment rooms, wet lounges, whirlpools, saunas and steam rooms. It’s also promising the largest ballroom amongst luxury hotels in Thailand, which will make it the perfect venue for hosting corporate and social gatherings."

Just a truly urban hotel. A resort will be impossible with 259 keys, residences and Bangkok's biggest event spaces.

Indeed, seems they are basically copying the idea of the Kimpton, although I don't think 259 keys is a limiting factor so much as the rest of it. The Sukhothai arguably manages to pull off urban resort fairly well with about 200 keys, but has the benefit of resort-like design and having a much larger footprint.

I would say Sukhothai succeeds because of their expansive grounds and resort-like design. It can feel a bit cramped in the F&B spaces and lobby though.
I'm surprised they're not going for resort in the clouds like RC HK. A turn-off to be in the lowest part of the building too. Their spa won't be anything compared to MO, FS or Sukhothai.

In Bangkok, "attempt to sell" would probably be more accurate.

Earlier this month, the hotel posted a few job offerings, including one for the Director of Human Resources.

The first building of One Bangkok is scheduled to open in Q1 of 2024

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/pr/2672973

Still no precise commitment for the opening of the Ritz-Carlton.

"Leading with Luxury
With a continued focus on creating unique, transformative, and culturally immersive experiences, The Ritz-Carlton brand is set to debut in Bangkok in 2024 with the opening of The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok. Occupying the first 24 floors of a 50-storey tower in the upcoming One Bangkok mixed-use development on the prestigious Wireless Road, the hotel will blend the brand’s legendary service with the best of Thai hospitality, design, culture, and cuisine."

One Bangkok is progressing and so is the Ritz-Carlton, but the opening should not happen before the end of 2024.

One Bangkok (where the Ritz-Carlton is)

A bike ride, that starts near the Athenee, to One Bangkok. It shows how advanced some of the buildings are.
You can see the building where the Ritz-Carlton is located.
