One night needed to keep status
Hi - I just realised I have one more night to keep my plat Elite status. I can stay at a hotel in the next 24 hours however if I book a room and dont show will I still get the points and the 1 night stay awarded?

If you do no show up at the hotel, you should expect the hotel to treat you as a "no show" and keep your money and not credit you the night or points. If PLT is important to you you should at least check-in in person, go up to the room, mess up the bed covers, leave the key on the desk and walk out. If you want to call the front desk the next morning to tell them you have checked out that could potentially free up the room earlier for the next guest.

Maybe. Probably not, though. Why not just book a stay where you can check in?

Welcome to FT, onedah!
You will need to find a local property to physically check in.
There's no need to "mess up" anything. Just leave the key in the room and depart.

Yes, with the desk clerk.
But, perhaps not with the clerk's manager or whoever audits the place overnight.
As with all the other schemes above, understand that if you are ultimately denied credit, you will not have a leg to stand on. If you want the status, either head over and at least check in.
Or don't and accept the risk.

So you have asked the property to violate the program rules and you're posting such on a public forum... Should your account be audited, they can reverse the credit and downgrade your status (and have cause to close your account). You are not alone being the only person not keeping track of their account but be prepared for changes to happen. Yes, I am a bit AR about it, but I actually track all my past and future stays to know where I stand renewing my status. We talk about these accounts being valuable assets but yet do nothing to know what's really happening. The last person I want being the only source of data is the vendor.

I am too and in years when I think I will be close to some status threshold, I audit my own account as NYE approaches to check that I haven't been incorrectly given any nights or stays that could be removed later. I don't want any January surprises.

Last year I used a free night certificate on a stay and couldn’t make it due to illness. I used mobile check in and the night ended up being credited to my account.
That said unless you have no marriotts near you just pick the cheapest hotel and drive 20 min. Check in, go home and use mobile check out the next day
