This is a cut and paste from my upcoming review on the situation with kiddy winks:
"Is The Langley good for children?
Not really. They are not banned, but life isn't easy. There is no kids club. The pool hours are VERY restricted - 9am to 10.30am and 3.30pm to 5pm. There is a kids menu in the restaurant, albeit at prices which are more than your average restaurant charges for adult meals.
However, Langley Park IS good for children. There is a playground near the visitor centre and the lake behind the hotel is full of ducks. The outdoor pool at the hotel will presumably not have restrictions on child hours either, when it finally opens. If you are planning to be out of the hotel during the day, you will manage.
Four Seasons Hampshire was like this when it launched. People kept bringing their kids regardless, and eventually it surrendered. A large family pool was built and the formal restaurant demolished and replaced with something more laid back. The Langley may go this way in time.
The bottom line is that there are not many young couples queuing up to pay £400 per night (plus spa, dinner etc) for a weekend away. The people with that sort of money are older and they usually come with children attached."

The Four Seasons Hampshire has over three times the number of rooms to fill that this hotel has. I’m not sure I agree that the main market for child-free hotels is young couples either, most of the adult-only hotels in existence don’t target young couples (e.g. Warner Leisure Hotels).

I think there's probably a divide between city and non-city hotels, you do actually see quite a lot of young couples queuing up to spend £400 per night for a weekend away somewhere like Paris or London, but not so much in hotels in the countryside, I agree.

Here is my long review: https://www.headforpoints.com/2019/0...langley-hotel/
and here is the summary:
* the hard product (room quality etc) is very high indeed – I haven’t had Hermes toiletries in a hotel room for a long time, for example
* the staff are generally very impressive
* the spa, pool and gym complex is outstanding – probably one of the top five hotels spas in the UK
* breakfast is a total disaster and there are issues with the restaurant overall – some of these will be fixed quickly, others may be structural
* kids are allowed, but little ones will have a far better time at Four Seasons Hampshire for a stay of more than one nigh

Good review, but I can’t agree that “ in terms of quality, there is very little in the UK to top it” ... these things are of course subjective, but Gleneagles, The Balmoral, Turnberry Lighthouse, Four Seasons London, Shangri La Shard, Mandarin Oriental, Corinthia to name a few come to mind...and some of those can be had significantly cheaper! Hermes toiletries are ok, but Bottega Veneta (Mandarin Oriental) are much better

Looking for award inventory for next week and can’t find any.
I also found very limited inventory for the whole month of July (only a couple of days)
plenty of rooms available on a paid rate
Is the hotel holding back on reward inventory or is it that busy?

There are very few Classic Rooms which are the entry level reward category, probably 5-10 maximum out of the 41 rooms in total. Given the hotel is made up of Grade II* and Grade II listed buildings this restricts the level of internal reconfiguration they can make, but on the plus side almost every room here is unique. I’m back here at the moment - will ask about the number of rooms of each type at check out.

I just spent a night in the Langley - and can’t agree with Raffles summary more.
Overall an exceptional place, and we will come back later this year. Hard product is genuinely brilliant, and the service from most of the staff was perfect.... but, unfortunately, the restaurant service really lets the place down.
- arrived around noon, and asked to reserve a table from 730. ‘Consider it done’ was the response. 5 hours later someone, without an apology, came to my room and offered me a 930 sitting.
- arrived at 830 to cancel my reservation and go to the bar... they were able to take us immediately. There were lots of tables free, including every table inside and around a third outside. I assume they were just trying to manage flow in the kitchen, but still disappointing service and you would have hoped that a titanium would have been somewhat prioritized rather than given a late change.
- one or two of the restaurant staff are somewhat fawlty towers. I find the need to insert a foreign language word at the end of every sentence as annoying rather than high-class. Another staff member advised us that the lemon meringue was almost finished and if we would like the tiramisu instead, because it’s italian. Just strange. We had the rather excellent lemon meringue.
- at breakfast, they had no idea what titanium’s get for breakfast, apart from having to pay a supplement for a full English as it’s not included in my package. Couldn’t tell me what the supplement was. Coffee took three requests and 25mins.
Finally, I could not get the 4pm guaranteed checkout. The hotel is not a resort on Marriott.com so therefore is not subject to availability. The response, from the front office manager, was that her manager has instructed her not to - and they are in full knowledge of the conditions.
Nevertheless, still looking forward to going back...

Lurkers/anyone have a view on when 2020 reservations will open up at The Langley? Seems rather odd that post the first week of Jan nothing is bookable. I assume this is to limit points bookings in anticipation of moving to a higher points category in 2020 however fairly frustrating for those looking to make a cash bookings.
