When SPG (Marriott) says "Limited Benefits" I think they mean it
I think the best way to approach Design Hotels is to choose one because you want to stay there and because you’re comfortable paying for exactly what you want. And be thankful that you earn points on what you spend and elite nights toward status.

If there’s a “better” non-limited Marriott portfolio property available, I’m most likely to choose that over a Design Hotel. But I apply the same approach when I compare Ritz-Carlton with St Regis and/or Luxury Collection properties in the same markets. Thus far, only the RC Boston is good enough for me to consider spending more over the W. (I won’t return to the Liberty until the GM is replaced and their replace their pitiful HVAC.)

I had a nice upgrade in Rotterdam and also I was offered (and used) a 4 pm checkout. At the time, the connection to SPG was new and the hotel had just started participating, with the staff obviously being thrilled about it. I was also offered a discount on their big buffet breakfast. This experience could hardly be described as no recognition, although I didn't get a suite.

Unfortunately this is no longer possible.
Going forward I just can't pull the trigger to pay 1k+ hkd when I know it's so much cheaper outside but yet cannot do an LNF.

I am considering the Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour (Malta) late January. I was able to find little information re: MR Plat benefits for the Design-brand. I think you are implying that I'll receive points/nights, but little else, correct? And that is OK as this (and others) seem to be very unique.
