We stayed at the Cairo Marriott in January and were very impressed by the executive lounge (breakfast and dinner spread).

The St Regis is still not taking bookings, and it still says opening June 2019. I just checked today.

Since this is an Egyptian property owned by a Qatari real estate company while an Egypt-backed blockade of Qatar is still ongoing, I feel this hotel’s opening date will continue to slip into oblivion. Although a team has been hired to run the hotel and the building is fitted out, friends of mine in Cairo tell me that the operational license is continuously being ‘pushed back’ by the authorities with no end in sight.

Sigh.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Does anyone see this blockade ending soon? Only way for this hotel to open it seems

And now it says Dec 19. I have a trip in January, but oh well :(

Starting to plan a trip to Cairo in early December. I guess it is close to 100% that this hotel won't be open?

200%. Believe it's opening when the doors finally do.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but this situation isn't ending soon.

Now showing June 2020 opening

TGLoyalty Jun 18, 2020 3:09 pm

Looks like it’s finally opening. Was it sold to someone else or did the authorities relent to allowing Qatari ownership continue in exchange for the luxury hotel to open and boost tourism following COVID-19

isn’t this a different STR Cairo than the Qatari one? Thought I read it somewhere but could be wrong.

Again, I'll believe it when I see it.

FlyingFrZ Jun 18, 2020 6:25 pm

So whose going be the first to book?

NotJustDreaming Jun 18, 2020 7:36 pm

I’m looking at it for mid December. There are two St Regis in Cairo on the Marriott website. One you have to phone to book. I’m considering the one you can currently book online.
