Barcelona EDITION - Spain [Master Thread]

Marriott press release:

http://news.marriott.com/2016/03/the...t-in-2017.html

The Barcelona EDITION to Debut in 2017

"The 100-room hotel will boast an enviable locale in the destination’s famed Ciutat Vella district, close to the Cathedral of Barcelona and nearly adjacent to the iconic Santa Caterina Market. Within fifteen minutes of the beach, the hotel will also be set within walking distance of many of the city’s most beloved landmarks including the Picasso museum, Santa Maria del Mar church, Palau de la Musica and Paseo de Gracia.

The unique project will encompass a total transformation by Office of Architecture in Barcelona – OAB (Carlos Ferrater Studio), of an existing office building into a modern and contemporary luxury-lifestyle hotel with a casual yet timeless feel co-created by Ian Schrager and famed Spanish designer, Lázaro Rosa-Violán. The space will include three distinct restaurant experiences, along with an activated lobby space, club and rooftop bar area."

Cheers.

Question July - did this property open?

It is now July 2018. Did this property open?
If so, any FTs have advice or recommendations? I am considering it for a pre-cruise stay!

Doing a "flexible dates" reservation search today for The Barcelona EDITION for July 2018 at https://www.marriott.com/hotels/trav...elona-edition/ reveals that the first date available is July 24, 2018.

Still not possible to book on this yet.

Great location - BUT those prices! 350+ Euro p/nt. Easily more expensive than the Le Meridien nearby.

Editions are usually 1.5-2x the cost of Le Meridiens though, so this was hardly a surprise. In season it's comparable to the W, but doesn't have the same vibe (the pool looks tiny), so this is quite an ambitious project which at least should be able to sustain pricing year round.

Anyone have any experience staying here yet? Especially Platinum recognition? I booked on points next week and have Le Méridien as backup. Neither of which will let me apply SNA’s and seem to have plenty of regular room availability but I’ve struggled with “eligible” bookings to apply SNa’s For the last little bit anyways. As an aside, I do have Cotton House for a night but if I’m reading it right an “upgrade” to the next up room (Egyptian) comes with a mandatory extra 90EUR fee which seems to be automatic because it forces up room occupancy from 2 to 3..

Editions rarely have any Platinum recognition. If that's important for you I'd go for the Meridien. If it's not, I find it hard to imagine the Edition will be better than the Hotel Arts (but as I've not yet tried it - I could be proven wrong here).

The Meridien should absolutely allow SNAs and is usually very generous to Platinums in general. Try calling Marriott (haha) to get one submitted.

Cotton House looks gorgeous, but I've never stayed there, so any comments above shouldn't be read as an implicit criticism of the venue. Marriott really has a sweet spot in Barcelona - one of the best cities in Europe for options.

Thanks. Hotel Arts isn’t available for my nights aside from a single night but the rate is over $1k and no points option. I may just stay a night in EDITION and Cotton and compare.

I love that this property is embracing Barcelona's UNESCO Biosphere accreditation and banning single-use plastic, but again, Marriott talks out of both sides of its mouth here knowing the tired and true FS Marriott's are moving to a room service delivery program that is basically ALL single-use plastic.

Did you end up staying at the Barcelona EDITION? Thinking of booking here next year using points, and I'm also Platinum Elite. Curious to know how your stay was and if you got any elite status recognition or upgrades.

Thank you!
