The Hotel Sasketchewan, Regina, Canada [Master Thread]
Category 5.
"Located in the heart of downtown Regina, Saskatchewan, the iconic property was originally built in 1927 as part of the Canadian Pacific Railway’s collection of hotels. Over the years, the hotel has hosted many VIPs including the Queen of England, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Rolling Stones and Justin Bieber. Recently the hotel transformed its public spaces, lounge and half of its 227 guest rooms (renovations of remaining guest rooms will continue through March 2016). The property’s 15,000 square-foot meeting and event space will also undergo a design transformation in summer 2016. The hotel’s newly renovated Circa 27 Lounge overlooks Victoria Park and is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike."
"Regina's only "Four Diamond" Hotel is renowned for exquisite service. The 'Hotel Sask' offers first-class dining, a full-service day spa, a well-equipped fitness centre and exclusive access to The Hotel Saskatchewan Club, our signature private venue, where members enjoy exceptional benefits.
Full service day spa, classic barber shop, shoe shine, and our Crown Club Fitness Centre"

This is certainly among the best, if not the best, hotels in Regina and is famous for being where the Royal Family stays during its Regina visits. It's within walking distance to most downtown locations and, if you're on the north side of the property, has a beautiful view of downtown and Victoria Park. The on-site restaurant is quite good as well. I live in Regina and recommend this hotel to business travelers quite routinely and they all seem very pleased with it. For the quality of hotel, the rates are quite reasonable.

Hi everyone, I haven't seen an update to this hotel for a while. I'm staying here currently for 4 nights. I'm an SPG Platinum with Ambassador that got matched over to Marriott. I have approximately 15-20 nights stay this year with Marriott though. I'm on a corporate rate which includes breakfast.
I did mobile check-in the day before; and was notified by the Marriott app that I had gotten upgraded to a King sized room. I'm not 100% certain of what room I had previously based on my corporate rate though.
Went by taxi from airport to the hotel (about $15). The outside of the hotel is really unremarkable and looks like a typical old style government building as it was a CP/CN Rail hotel (surprised that Fairmont didn't get this one). The inside and decor is very much like a Fairmont for that matter. The front of the hotel has several steps in and up into the lobby level. There was no elevator or accessible ramps that I could see (could be on another side of the building/entrance perhaps). (No doorman or valet around either)
I was greeted immediately at check-in who acknowledged my status after giving my last name and credit card. I received two keycards (Still magnetic strips) in an 'Upgraded" folio along with a sealed envelope wrapped with a black ribbon (name of hotel on the ribbon in gold). The clerk was uncertain on what was in the envelope and thought it might be a survey. (This was a personally written note from the sales team welcoming me to the hotel and inviting me to a 5pm cocktail hour at the Circa Lounge). I was given 750 points as my amenity as my corporate rate included continental breakfast (more on that later). Gym is open 24/7 but steam room has specific hours (sorry, didn't pay attention). No executive lounge. Main lobby has the restaurant and bar.
My room is on the 7th floor; the view was unremarkable (It's regina!) but it was a corner room with lots of light. The room is very spacious, lots of light fixtures throughout with USB and standard power points on the desk, on the night table stands, etc. There is a small bar refrigerator, one cup coffee maker, two bottles of water, coffee/tea, etc. There is also two bottles of wine (white and red) with a $28 tag on each. The bathroom is small but very nicely appointed. There is a shower with glass wall, no tub. Lots and lots of towels! The soap, shampoo, conditioner are very nice. Lots of space on the glass shelves for your personal items.
The big surprise is that there is a very large walk-in closet on the other side of the room (away from the bathroom). It's basically the size of the bathroom. Standard equipment inside (robe, hangers, digital safe, iron/iron board, etc.)
There is a small desk and 42-47" TV in the room as well. All channels appear to be in HD.
All in all, the room is very nice and bed is comfortable. The pillows could use an upgrade as two of the four are very small and very flat.
The breakfast was very good and held in their restaurant. Standard charge for the buffet is $28/person which was waived for us. It included baked goods, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, pastries, omelet station, fresh fruit, some cold cuts, juice, and coffee. If you're platinum, it would have been included and well worth it instead of the points for daily breakfast.
The hotel is easily within walking distance to the downtown core (5m) and within at least 10 restaurants that I passed earlier.
Hope this helps.

Just a bit of a follow-up; I checked out a bit earlier today. Unlike SPG properties; I never received an email folio so I was unwilling to simply do the mobile checkout on the Marriott App. When I checked out in person at the front desk, they had to make several adjustments to my folio such as Internet, breakfast, and a few other things as the system 'forgot' I was Platinum Elite. Oh well. Anyhow, no complaints other than that minor hiccup. Beautiful hotel, and I won't hesitate to stay there again if I'm in Regina. (For anyone doing so, go visit the Copper Kettle -- awesome food and get the "Dealer's Choice" drink! ;-)

With regards to a wheelchair entrance this is via a stairlift on the East side, just around the corner from the main entrance. A little bit of a sore point TBH as I was on a City of Regina Access Advisory Committee when the previous owner had a large tax debt forgiven ( 10 Million plus was reported) , with one of the conditions being improving that access. This was to allow new owners to develop the hotel which was somewhat rundown at the time. Well they renovated, made it all pretty as a Radisson at the time, but never addressed the wheelchair access. There needs to be a sign informing wheelchair guests tha access is elsewhere before they get out of their vehicles. Not a problem in summer as it's not that far but on a cold Saskatchewan winter day it's a barrier. I guess at least there is a stair lift now.
I have never stayed there as I live in Regina but it is old school, nice ( if you like overly ornate gilded decor) and a bit stuffy. As for local restaurants I would also recommend Beer Brothers, just 2 blocks north, for a great election of imported beers and beer related cuisine.

The Hotel Saskatchewan is a nice hotel - for those visiting Regina, this is probably a good choice. Here are my impressions and photos:
Pros:
Cons:
I would come back if I needed to be in Regina.
Photos (please expand the Spoiler tag):
Pros:
- Upgraded to a Deluxe Suite before arrival - good full-sized suite
- Couch was comfortable
- Bed was comfortable - plush mattress, plush covers, pillows are plush but maybe too tall
- Shower pressure is strong (more on this later)
- Good welcome gift of sweets
- Breakfast voucher for Elites was good for two entrees - delicious smoked salmon toastie with ricotta spread and honey butter potatoes - no charges and tip included
Cons:
- Half-glass shower leads to lots of water on the floor
I would come back if I needed to be in Regina.
