Why is the Sheraton Toronto accepting reservations in November? Are renovations done?

The hotel re-opened earlier this month. The renovations do not seem to be anywhere near complete. Check-in is in a temporary location in the basement and the main entrances plus (all?) of the lobby area are off limits due to ongoing construction.

Just found out the renovated lounge opening today at 5pm local time.

I need to plan a stay in Toronto for the Remembrance Day long weekend. Looking to probably burn some Marriott Certs. Any thoughts on whether this hotel, the Delta, or the Downtown Marriotts are a better idea? A little turned off by the renos here but the lounge is open at least?

Thanks for your help in advance.

So I just finished a 5 night stay with Sheraton Centre. I've stayed with this property on and off for better part of 20 years with different employers. Over the last few years, I've been Ambassador or at the least Titanium as well. My current status is Titanium at the moment.

First off, this property definitely needs a serious upgrade/renovation across the entire physical building -- not just guest rooms, entry, conference rooms, etc. But they've done a good job keeping up the maintenance so it doesn't look dated/worn out.

Secondly, it is definitely still under renovation. Trying to get around is possible if you know the original layout, PATH, elevators, etc. but largely its just the finished reception, elevator banks, and that's it connected to the driveway/parking area. Everything else is boxed off with photos of the eventually finished renovations. The lounge on the 43rd floor is also finished, nicely updated, etc. but not dramatically different layout or anything than years before.

Here's my experience, and why I'm annoyed with the property at the moment:
- I applied 5 SNA, which were accepted; but I still got a mobile keycard to this 3rd floor room in a part of the hotel I've never seen before in all my years! Multiple stairs, dark, and likely one of the oldest parts of the building?
- Returned to lobby to ask what happened, no recognition of status, no apology from front desk; clerk simply ran off to talk to his manager in the backroom for 10m after confirming my identity
- Posted me to a junior suite on a higher floor; but that's it
- Doormen/valet were largely more interested in talking to themselves than helping with luggage or directions with guests. I asked if they had umbrellas to loan, and got a pretty rude/snarky answer - I didn't bother talking to any of them for the rest of the stay
- I attempted to use the Chat function on the Bonvoy app to ask them to update the mobile key and to get late checkout on the last day. Didn't get a response for 2h, gave up and re-checked the next day. They finally updated the key and said my checkout would be 4pm on the last day
- I didn't bother using the late checkout because the app still told me it was 12pm on the last day -- couldn't take the chance I'd have to make multiple trips to the lobby later so I took my luggage to the office
- No housekeeping unless you outright request it
- Breakfast in the lounge was ok, everything was in chafing dishes but largely cold/not worth eating (scotch egg, sausage, etc.); fruit, cereal was ok - coffee was served directly instead of self-serve
- Best customer service in the entire place? The person manning the entry point to the lounge. Very friendly, helpful, and just nice.

I filled out the hotel survey via email and got the usual "Sorry, we'll do better next time. Thanks for staying with us!" I get that renovations are hard on everyone. But the front desk clerk, doormen, and even their own chat facility were just terrible at the basics. Surveys apparently do nothing, and status means very little even in times of COVID when tourism/hospitality are begging for business to return.

Meh. Definitely thinking twice before just going to this hotel on my next few trips next month. St. Regis or Fairmont will be my choice.

Thank you for this. I am a Plat, and usually stay at the Sheraton a couple of times/yr.

It was totally closed when I came to Toronto in early September, so opted to stay at the Marriott Eaton Centre. (I also looked at the St Regis, but couldn't justify the price difference).

i was really impressed with the Marriott - staff was particularly excellent in all areas. I was there for a week and got upgraded to a full suite after my first two nights (no suite coupon needed). Breakfast was very good ordered from phone app and picked up in person.

Location was not as great as Sheraton for my meetings, but not too bad and Underground Path is close by.

There appeared to be a lounge on the main floor (next to restaurant) but it was closed for Covid,

the Marriott was a surprisingly good alternative to the Sheraton and I would stay there again.

The two Marriotts nearby are good. Eaton Centre and one further up on Yonge. Can't complain about their service in the past, hopefully it is still about the same.

I agree about St. Regis pricing, but our corporate discount makes it a bit more reasonable and doesn't hurt that I'm not the one really paying at the end of the day. Sheraton should be about middle tier nowadays compared to St. Regis and the higher end ones, but I get a distinct impression that the regular Marriotts often show them up based on price, facilities, and many are newer.

Any recent stays here by Elite members? How are the renovations progressing? Has the elite check-in desk resurfaced in the main area?

Did last couple of stays at Fairmont and Marriott Eaton Centre but planning out into late March, might make another run here.

Sorry, this reply is probably too late for you, but it might assist others.
One: The renovations should be complete mid to late April. The lobby bar (Dual Citizen) is now open.
Two: Regarding Elite desk check in, all of the kiosks are now open but here is the elite thing: If you have Club Lounge Access, you will be directed in your welcome email to proceed directly to the 43rd floor to check in.

Hi, good reminder for me to update after my trip last week to the hotel.

Renovations are completed on the main lobby around the new bar but most of the other areas are still blocked off. Pool is still closed as well. Basically no other shops exist anymore, and there is quite the intricate steps to follow to get to Shopsy's and Quinn's Steakhouse as well.

The south side entrances are all closed off; (or at least while I was there) including the exit from the valet areas.

Check-In areas are nice, no signs indicating any particular place for Bonvoy/Elite/etc. check-in. I did go up to the 43rd floor for check-in, which they were able to help with no issue. However, My welcome email said nothing as well.

I only did breakfast one morning at the Club Lounge -- decent selection of food but quality was just ok. For some reason, no pastries, bread, etc. either.

Looks like I'm heading back in a week's time again.

I’m there once a week, let’s grab a drink in the Club Lounge!

Are Shopsy's or Quinn's open? I went by last Thursday and they were closed.

I honestly don't know. I know they were both open during on the Sunday of the St. Patrick's Day parade though.

Both closed after St. Patrick’s Day again. I’m back at Sheraton now if there are more questions.

Thanks. Hopefully they reopen before the next St. Patrick's Day!
