We were given one of the new renovated rooms, which was on the fully renovated floor. The staff were certainly very proud of the new work as they told us numerous times. Definitely ask fora reno room.

As a plat, got upgraded to a 2-room suite which was nice, but in line with the hotel style and category. Lounge was small but ok. As everyone says, location isn't great but taxis are cheap.

A quick update on the hotel as there hasn't been anything in this thread for over a year now.

Checked in earlier today and had both rooms booked upgraded to suites which was a nice surprise. One suite has been renovated, one hasn't. Both of a similar size (effectively two rooms connected together), but the renovated room has flat screen TVs and newer furnishings.

The hotel is pretty busy and well staffed at present. The staff are friendly and courteous and speak very good English. (Which is fortunate as my Mandarin stretches as far as please and thankyou...)

The executive lounge on the 16th floor comfortably holds about 30 guests. Complementary breakfast is from 7-10am with a happy hour from 5-8pm which includes a range of drinks (inc alcohol) and snacks. The snacks are pretty reasonable including a variety of Western and Chinese hot dishes. Some cold meats, fruit, vegetable sticks, bread rolls and cakes round off the selection.

Finally internet access is pretty reasonable (hence I'm online) at around $9 / £4.50 for 24 hours in-room with a speedy connection.

I'm impressed so far and early impressions are positive, especially with the service offered by the staff who seem eager to please and do what they can to make a stay pleasurable.

Smile Great hotel!

I had a great 3-night stay at Sheraton Xian this month. I booked the stay using points and as a Plat member, I was upgraded to a "deluxe" room on the Executive Floor (17th). I was asked to go to the Club Lounge on 16th floor to check in and was offered welcome drinks.

Goodies:
- my room had (big) basket filled with various kinds of fruits, jar of candies and two plates of baked sweets
- access to club lounge for breakfast and evening snack. Also comes with free drinks and a computer with internet access
- (as a Plat member) complementary access to buffet breakfast at the restaurant on 1st floor. Worth about Y1500 per meal
- English newspaper & bottles of water delivered daily
- short taxi distance to the walled city

Not-so-greats:
- surrounding area is not so great to walk around. Quite empty.

I really liked this hotel. ^ The buffet breakfast was amazing - fresh fruits, Japanese food, Chinese food and also continental stuff. I found the Club Lounge staff extremely helpful - much more than the ones staffed at concierge desk or front desk.

There are tons of taxi drivers waiting outside the hotel and they may rip you off. Ask someone at the Club Lounge for the appropriate prices for taxi rides so that you know what to bargain towards. (e.g. Y120 to Xian airport) Taxi drivers didn't seem to like using the meters.

Had no idea this was offered. Ate my breakfasts in the lounge every morning and it was decent.

Y1500 for breakfast? Wow, that is like US$250?!

During my recent visit at this property I have made some photos of the Executive Level room we stayed in (upgrade from standard room - needed two separate beds so don't know if there would be a suite available).

Have a look at the flickr set.

thanks to theTrotter for the tip about breakfast! mr kk and i just spent four nights here and had a great stay. upgraded on the second day to a suite, had breakfast in the main restaurant daily. staff very helpful and friendly, and their english beat the heck outta my chinese. the hotel gets a LOT of groups/buses, (due to xi'an being the home to the terra cotta warriors and thus on the tour circuit, i guess) and i have a feeling not a lot of those guests are plats.

very happy with platinum treatment and the hotel in general, nice fruit bowl, sweets and a plate of delicious cookies upon checkin. the suite had a dozen roses...nice touch...we walked to a couple of nearby restaurants, and i found a local department/grocery store to wander through. quite pleased with our stay. ^

Gold report

Just like the Sheraton HKG, this property upgrades Golds to the SPG floor.

Other than that, the staff is outstanding. Best of any hotel I've stayed at in a very long time.
Kudos to Michael the Concierge, and Frank. ^ Staff this property is sure to be proud of. Received a fruit basket (3 apple type fruits that are pear-like).

Cabs are dirtcheap. This hotel is not walking distance to the Old City, at least not in the snow/sleet and 32F / 0C weather.

Used cash and points. Nice room, circa 1995.

At Xi'AN

Hi Guys.
I just completed a 2 night stay at the Sheraton Xi'An and wanted to provide a quick update.

I am an SPG Platinum member and booked the room about 2 months ahead for1 room - cash and points. Had my 2 kids with me and my wife and we checked in. Check in - we were quickly escorted to the club floor on the 16th floor and the process was very smooth. Since it was Happy Hour, we got a cocktail while we checked in. So it was great.

Pluses:

- Nice 2 room Executive Suite. Think our room was not renovated so it was just OK. But the space was fantastic and I cannot complain one bit

- Flat Screen TV's

- Good WI FI Signal

- Breakfast free for 2 at the lounge and the main restaurant. My kids love a big breakfast, so we went to the main restaurant downstairs. The spread was huge and service was excellent. They charged for my 2 kids (under 8), 1 bF. So it was not bad

- Lounge happy hour is 3 hrs: 5pm-8pm; very generous hours and pours!! Loved it

- Room - biggiest suite I have had in a long time

Minuses:

- Room needs an upgrade or renovation
- Lounge does too
- Location of the hotel not great; but taxis are cheap
- 300RMB for extra bed. Thats a rip off
- They have a special goin on right now thats like 3 glasses of wine and 3 apetizers for 98RMB. When my wife and I were in the elevator on our way out for dinner, we saw the advertisement and picture. We said...wow....this sounds like a great deal, so we changed our mind and decided to eat in the hotel. Honestly, the pictures in the elevator for the wine - were good. The glases were 3/4 full, so we thought it was an excellent promotion

We went down to the Marco Polo lounge and asked them for the choice of apetizers. They said..it was FRIED Shrimp, FRIED Cheese, and FRIED Fish (which happened to be calamari). But no choice of apetizers. I was annoyed with this and said fine.

Then the wines came out, and boy...I honest I am not kidding. The Wine was just worth 2 sips. Less than 1 Oz I must say. I am going to try to post the pictures of the advertisement on the elevator so you guys can see this. Its absolutely false advertising.

For those of you you have been to China. You can't even go out and try to explain this. I just gave up and got annoyed. Total rip off in Marco Polo Lounge. Still annoyed.

Anyway....overall good hotel. I like it.

Best,

The renovated club lounge looks spectacular. A big improvement over what I saw in late April of this year! And the 'spread' looks a lot more attractive than what was offered at that time too.

I was there while the lounge was being renovated. Glad to hear it turned out so well!
