I've never heard of tea being free at any St. Regis or any Starwood for any status.

Have stayed at a half dozen or so in the last 2 years... Comp tea service is (was?) a St Regis signature.

Did your room come with butler service? That includes complimentary coffee / tea for sure.

It's not listed in the rate details, though the confirmation email is signed:

"Sincerely,

St. Regis Butler Service. Allow Me.
The St. Regis Rome"

Hi DC777Fan,

If you have any concern about the charge, you may contact Corporate Customer Service via email at [email protected], they can send a file to the property asking them to explain.

After 3 Stellar stays at the Westin Excelsior, I gave the Grand a try. Big Mistake. I will not go into all the particulars but the one thing I will comment on is they are VERY stingy when it comes to upgrades.. The hotel had every room category available when I checked in.. confirmed this online/and called SPG, yet I only got the standard award room I booked.. I have been an SPG Platinum member since the inception of the program, and do not feel it was worth all the points it requires to stay there. JMO!

Did you rebuff the front desk after you found other room categories were available?

I called down and they gave me the run around.. I ended up contacting the GM and he got back to me after I checked out: He apologized of course and then offered me some points as compensation.

Still would NOT return...

we got a very nice treatment (Gold)... I am not positive if we got the upgraded room, but the room was excellent... big, renovated, huge bath, etc.
We got 3 'gifts' - welcome fruit basket, a bottle of prosecco, and a bottle of chianti.
(we were celebrting anniversary, so maybe gifts were part of it, but I didnt expect 3 different ones )

Location was fine, walkable to many places, close to Metro, Termini, and some buses.

We are reserved for next july 9-11 at both hotels and cant decide which.

We usually do this when all of us travel:

Mom and one kiddo in one bed
Dad and one kiddo in the other.

Or, as will be the case in westin or regis, as confirmed by both hotels already by email:

One king w one parent and the two kiddos
A free roll away with the other parent.

Fine for us as they are going to be 6&8 and we are only in the room to sleep/rest/shower and get ready for the visit.

Westin seems nice as it has a pool
But regis appears closer to all the things

And regis looks like a cool place for little kids what love castles and stuff

Both are same 20k pts a night and we are gold--for now

We expect little but hope its nice

We wish there were free brekky but thats probably not doable so we will find options in Rome.

Which one is easier to get to and from FCO and who knows what options there are the best options for that?

Thanks!!

mm

Trying to decide between the Westin and the St Regis. Both will cost me 25,000. 1 or 2 night stay in Rome before we head home.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

I've stayed at both and imho its not even close - the Westin is superior in every way. Location, room size, generosity with the upgrades and outstanding service.

Is the consensus still that the Westin is superior to the St. Regis? I am Gold and won't be expecting any upgrades or amenities, but would like a more spacious room, as we have 3 adults. Location is important too.

Westin or St. Regis?

Thanks!

Slightly off topic, but was wondering if anyone can offer an opinion of the St Regis Rome vs the Waldorf Astoria Cavalieri? I'm booked this June at the St Regis via Chase Luxury Hotels (very similar to Amex FHR ie breakfast incl for 2, one category upgrade etc). I can get the same amenities at the Waldorf for about $100 less per night but am partial to the St Regis given my prior experience at other St Regis locations.

Thanks!
