I was at the Mall of the Emirates just a week ago and didn't see any new construction, nor anyplace where they could do new construction. Furthermore, the Pullman hotel at the Mall has 481 rooms and is owned by Majid al Futtaim Properties, and per the press release:
"Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. and Majid Al Futtaim Properties have signed an agreement to open a Sheraton Hotel at Mall of the Emirates in Dubai. Scheduled to debut in the first quarter of 2013, Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates Hotel will comprise 481 guest rooms including 94 suites, four restaurants and lounges and nearly 9,000 square-feet of ultra-modern meeting and event space.
The hotel will be directly connected to Mall of the Emirates"
And per the Majid al Futtaim Properties website:
"The Pullman is ideally situated on Sheikh Zayed road at the crossroads of old Dubai, the Marina district, Jumeirah beach and Business bay. The hotel features 481 upscale rooms and suites and links directly to Mall of the Emirates."

It sounds like they are rebranding The Pullman Hotel.

No, I never did try it. Since my Dubai office is walking distance to the Mall of the Emirates, I plan to take advantage of this property!

This is definitely the Pullman. They announced that Pullman MoE would go to unspecified US operator when the Pullman Deira CityCentre officially launched after its refurb from the CityCentre Hotel. My understanding is that MAF (the owners) have a portfolio which they think is very European brand focused (think about 90% of their properties are Accor + they have the Kempinski at MoE) and wanted a property with more brand recognition in some other target markets. I'd guessed Marriott / Rennaisance, as MAF have signed with them for their Bahrain CityCentre development (+ the old Dubai Rennaisance and proposed one in the Marina have changed to a CP and IC respectively so there is room in market) so this is a pleasant surprise.

I have made this photo of the Pullman Mall of the Emirates in Sep. 2012, it will be rebranded as the Sheraton Mall of the Emirates in 2013. It is a great location and adds a splendid property to the SPG portfolio in Dubai.

Occupancy @ Sheraton Dubai Mall
Couple of questions
1) I am trying to reserve this property and it does not allow me use free points when I add my 2 kiddos. Will there be a problem when I show up there with the kids? .
2) When they say "2 standard" beds, are these like full or queen?
Thanks!

Had two stays in April at this hotel, one long one and one short one. Positives are: good platinum upgrade on both stays, to deluxe suites, and choice of breakfast in lounge or restaurant; excellent staff attitude, probably even better than Grosvenor House; and excellent F&B service at the all-day restaurant (where breakfast is served). The location, with access to the mall as well as the metro, can't be beat.
Some teething problems - The hotel offers only one type of pillow (hard foam pillows). This doesn't work for me since I am used to soft feather pillows. In contrast to my first stay, there was no fruit basket nor date cider delivered on my second stay. I had to remind them every day to bring the newspaper even though everyone else on the floor seemed to have got it. On both occasions I was assured (in response to my advance request) at check-in that my room had a view of Burj Al Arab - on both occasions this turned out to be false.
While there are many things that I really like about this hotel, until they offer alternative pillow choices I will continue frequenting my two "GH's" (Grosvenor House and Grand Hyatt)...

Just spent 4 nights staying here. The location is very convenient connected to the mall and also the metro.
Platinum recognition was excellent, upgraded to a suite, lounge access, 500 points and a welcome amenity. The lounge was OK although got a bit full at times. The drink selection in the evening was a bit limited and not top draw but OK. My biggest complaint with the lounge was the other guests. There were groups of business people there everytime I went who talked very loudly about their latest multi million dollar deal
Generally I thought it was a very good hotel. My only two niggles were being told I was being put on a high floor, I was put on floor 10 (guest rooms are from floor 5 -23) So I would not really consider this a high floor (however the view wa great) and when leaving their was a lot of pressure to take the hotel metered limousine. Fine to offer it but once a guest has said they want a regular taxi then drop it dont send another two people to try and push it.
