Notes about the W Amsterdam:
- The hotel is divided between two buildings. The Bank building is reported to be quieter and less of a scene. Each building has a Platinum breakfast offering and guests can try either regardless of which building your room is in; more details about breakfast are included in this post.
- Many people have reported limited upgrade availability.

W Amsterdam
Just back from several days at the W. Requested to be in the bank bldg and was upgraded to that. Not a huge upgrade, but they honored the request. Plat breakfast is a full European buffet. Definitely worth more to me than points amenity. Staff is young, well trained and eager to help. Lots of staff at all times. As said many times, location is the best in Amsterdam. Overall, we were very well treated. Would definitely stay there again. I would not expect a suite.

Personally I think the location of the Pulitzer (former SPG property) was the best in Amsterdam. The W is well located in that it is central, but the immediate vicinity is not nearly as charming or lovely when you walk outside of the hotel. The Pulitzer's location in the nine streets right on a canal cant'e be beat.

Thanks! Is it safe to say suite upgrades are not the normal here (even if available?)

Unexpected 1 night stay here last month: upgraded to a loft suite in the Bank building. I took breakfast in the Exchange building due to my familiarity with the excellent spread from past visits. It was just as great; love the fresh juices as well as the Mediteranian offerings from the buffet + the usual suspect items to order a la carte. Can't beat the view up there on a sunny day either.

Stayed here again recently, and the hotel is as awesome as it was on my first visit. (Upgrade to the Marvelous Suite Exchange the first time, and to a Studio Suite Bank this time.) I took breakfast in both restaurants, and it's still as excellent as it was on my last stay.
This remains one of my favorite properties in the Starwood portfolio, and the GM Igor is simply the best!
What's more is, the room rates are totally reasonable. I will never stay anywhere else in Amsterdam.

I am staying in May! What is the access policy to the spa area. The website states this “Please know that if you are a guest staying in the hotel, the duration of the access to the Wet® Area is a maximum of 2 hours and please reserve this prior to you visit to the AWAY ® Spa.”

As a huge fan of W hotels with great experience at W Maldives in January (though not so good at the W Hong Kong later on), I have chosen this property to celebrate my birthday with a 5 nights stay in early April. I have reached out to my ambassador to see what they can do to make it memorable, hope the hotel will come through (and reading how @SF1K got upgraded to the E-wow suite I'm having high hopes ).
Will post back!

Ridiculous policy on corporate rates
i had a buddy of mine that stayed at the W Amsterdam last week. Upon checking in, he was advised that corporate rates are not eligible for upgrades to even standard rooms in the bank building. However, if it was just a regular rate, Platinum members (he has Ambassador) can be upgraded to the bank building without a upgrade fee. He texted me and I told him to call Plat Concierge and/or ambassador. According to him, the ambassador called back and said the MOD was firm on the policy even though SET rates are eligible rates under SPG platinum upgrade policy. That’s not all, an email to the GM resulted in the same comment. The best part of the email was that he stated the corporate rate is for the exchange building. Are you kidding me? Most of, if not all, corporate rates are for the run of the House rooms. My buddy decided to not pursue it because it was only one night but never have I met this kind of lame excuse. The night in question all types of rooms were available so availability was not an issue.
any thoughts?
