This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

The restaurant is pretty good (steakhouse). Rooms are OK, look like Courtyard decor. I personally prefer the Four Points by Sheraton over the Marriott - quieter, rooms a bit newer, free Wifi.

There are a bunch of threads on what to do for 10 hours around LAX - best summed up as pick one area of LA you want to tour, rent a car and drive there, allow plenty of time for return traffic, car drop off, bus to terminal, long security lines, etc. There's very little of any interest (except planespotting) in the immediate vicinity of LAX IMHO. I'd probably drive down to Manhattan Beach and hang out in that area.

The LAX Marriott is nice but many here on FT prefer the Renaissance if you are going with a full service Marriott it is newer and gernally nicer.

However, my last stay at the LAX Marriott provided me with a very nice corner suite.

Definitely go with the LAX Renaissance if you want a nicer hotel and room. No steakhouse, but since these hotels are literally right around the corner from each other you can walk to the Marriott and go to the steakhouse if you like. Also weekend rates are generally lower at the Renaissance.

LAX Renaissence:

$109/night (**NO Breakfast**)
MUST ARRIVE ON
- TH OR FR OR SA
MUST STAY OVER NIGHT OF
- FR OR SA

$120/night(**Includes Breakfast**)
SUMMER SLEEPOVER - STAY FOR BREAKFAST PROMOTION
INCLUDES BREAKFAST FOR UP TO 2 ADULTS AND CHILDREN 12 AND UNDER
RESERVE AND PAY WITH ANY VISA CARD AND RECEIVE
--$100 BONUS BUCKS COUPON GOOD FOR A FUTURE 2 NIGHT PAID STAY
VALID AT MARRIOTT HOTELS & RESORTS AND RENAISSANCE HOTELS
& RESORTS WORLDWIDE FROM 9-01-05 TO 12-29-05
--$50 SAVINGS COUPON OFF QUALIFYING TRIP ON UNITED, VALID FOR
TRAVEL 9-01-05 TO 12-15-05
FRIDAY OR SATURDAY STAYOVER REQUIRED

LAX Marriott:

$125/night (**NO Breakfast**)
MUST ARRIVE ON
- TH OR FR OR SA
MUST STAY OVER NIGHT OF
- FR OR SA

Weekday rates are also lower:

Renaissance: $189/night
Marriott: $199/night

Note that at the Marriott CL they offer eggs for breakfast, whereas at the Renaissance they do not. The Marriott CL lounge is older and drab like everything at that hotel, and the Renaissance decor is much nicer.

I live a 40 minute drive from LAX-and I will be staying at the Renaissance LAX to catch an early morning flight.
The OTP rate of $120 was just to good to pass up-I get more back than I will pay and I don't have to worry about a 5 am drive.
The Renaissance is supposed to be sooooooo much nicer than the Marriott(or the four points)

Thanks for all the tips. I have Marriott w/reward points for my LAX stay. With the July 4th holiday near the other hotels had a higher than normal point redemption. How is Manhatten beach and the area? Will be 2 ladies and a teen age girl...shopping, sights ect....? Any info is appreciated. Thanks, DEB

Deb-also check out the members(elite?)only rate at the Marriott,$88 including B'fast for two and some sort of shuttle to the beach.
I do agree the Ren is the nicer-but not by much.Much nicer public spaces-but you don't sleep in the lobby.

There is a button at the top on the right that says "Search this Forum". If you type in LAX, you'll get a return of 36 threads related to LAX, most of which are discussing the Marriott vs. the Renaissance. Here are a few:

Yeah -she should do a search, however there often is newer info than is contained in a search-such as the special rate info I gave her.
Both a search and current info should be used when asked for and(generously) shared by the wonderful members of this site.
BTW DEB,welcome to the site.

The simple answer? The Renaissance is a FAR superior property and worth a fairly sizable premium over the Marriott. Given that their rates usually match, it's a no-brainer.

LAX Hilton is $80 prepaid rate and you can get instant gold status (follow simple directions in Hilton forum). Free breakfast with status.

Priceline rate is $55/night and you will likely end up at 4* Westin.

Why pay more?

Addendum: To be fair, we spent a couple of nights at the LAX Ren after my original Post. It was a pretty good deal because we used a $100 bonus buck. Rooms are nice and fairly quiet - given the location. Parking as always is a big rip, though you can park for free across the street on the street next to BK. Also highly convenient to Hertz and other car rental lots. I would not hesitate to recommend the Ren. to anyone who needs to stay at LAX.

Deb,

I've done both many times, and much prefer the Ren if the rate is as good or better. Charming quiet outdoor pool is a great plus.
