An update: I have received the LNF rate of $149.50, though not before jumping through some hoops.
[...]
I have no idea what was going on, how they got the no availability, what caused them to change their decision, nothing. For all I know, they were making stuff up hoping that I would go away, until they saw I was serious. Anybody had similar experiences? Am I just a silly angry man?

Btw, they only check the site that you give. So if hotels.com was showing the same rate, but was easier to explain how to duplicate, perhaps you should have used hotels.com instead.
(I've never used Expedia for an LNF, so don't know whether this is an Expedia-specific issue.)
I do know, however, that LNF staff can do things differently than you if you don't tell them (in the comments) exactly what to do step by step, and doing things differently than you may lead to different results!
That's why I never bother doing an LNF if I can't take the time to give step by step instructions on how to look up the hotel and the rate. Typing a few extra sentences up front actually saves time compared to having to resubmit and fight later.

I did give instructions on my second attempt. Expedia is once of the biggest travel sites and the rate was available with the plainest of searches (no special tricks) so I can't imagine what they could mess up even without directions. But I still bothered to give directions (because I read here that it always helps) to no avail.
I'm disappointed that such simple search (rather than say an obscure Estonian website where the rate shows up only on a Firefox browser with the cookies enabled) caused so much work and trouble. Or maybe they are used to sophisticated tricks which they applied instinctively to my itinerary and that resulted in the trouble.. yeah I'm a noob, I didn't even know about thus feature and all I wanted points a way to get the expedia rate on marriott website so I can get marriott and chase points...

I called the hotel directly and the reservation agent "didn't know" and asked around but no one knew. I had him transfer me to a manager. He did, but I had to leave a message and no one has called me back. I think I am going to give up and do something else.
I was able to confirm with the Gift Cheque specialist that there is NOT a 10 certificate limit per reservation (I had read about this happening when I did a search to find an answer to my other question.) She said if a box pops up saying "Certificate limit reached" on the 10th certificate, then the person wasn't trained properly. She said to call her back if I had a problem with the number of certificate limit. The only problem with that is the number for the Gift Certificate specialists is not answered by a person. They tell you to leave a message and someone would call you back. So try to apply your gift certificates early in your stay (not at check out) so that they have time to get back with you.

maggiew, logically, LNF IS a publicly available rate because you can only get it through a comparison with another publicly available rate. Having said that, if you get a desk clerk who is unaware of what an LNF is you could run into problems. (not to mention the SFB problem). My advice would be to email the Marriott Concierge on this site, ask him to mark your reservation appropriately, and to confirm it to you. Print out the email and take it with you...and you will be set for any problems that might arise. ^

Yes, I know and no, you can't
MEB is classed as a non-public rate as technically you have to be signed up to the newsletter to obtain it. Of course any old Tom, Dick or Harry can enter MEB into the promo code box but Marriott say it is non-public.

What a shame. But what about if someone calls the property that offers MEB and he was told about the rate without signing up? I guess that ought to be legitimate for LNF, since it was a rate that is offered by the property.

Whether they told a person or not, it would be entered as rate code in the reservation. Since one has to provide a reservation number to get the LNF comparison, it would be denied.

If any Rookies are looking for a guide on how to do a Look No Further claim for Marriott, I put together a step by step guide.
Hope it helps!

Making Changes to LNF Reservation
I have a two-night stay coming up that I successfully got a LNF rate for. Unfortunately, I may have to cut my stay to one night. If I change my reservation, do I keep the LNF rate or will it revert to the prevailing Marriott rate at the time of the change? (I looked at doing a new reservation for one night and getting a new LNF match but the lower rate isn't available any more.)
