Property underwent renovation in 2015-2016, so no longer a dump. Exec lounge open on the weekends.

You do not need to pay for the Hoppa to get to the property. You can take some public buses (ie, 105, 111, 140) to/from the Ren, as it's in the 'free zone'. The Heathrow free travel zone has been suspended indefinitely effective January 1, 2021. Standard fares now apply.

Check In

Check-in was quick and easy.  The lady told me about the lounge access that I would get as a Marriott Gold.  I dont think my room was upgraded at all but I had checked in on the app so not sure if that makes a difference.

Room

The room was tastefully decorated.  I had one looking over the entrance but it was very quiet and had plenty of space.  The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept all night without waking which is unusual for me in a hotel.  There are plugs on one side of the bed so you can charge your phone and use it as an alarm clock.  There was a hairdryer next to a mirror in the room and it was a good hairdryer that actually had lots of power yet was very quiet!

My only tiny niggle was about the size of the bathroom - it was quite small so as a couple f twofold be a squeeze but as a single traveller it was fine.  The shower was good although not super powerful but did the job well!  The amenities were nice and seemed quite high quality although bath gel rather than shower gel is a strange choice I would say!

Service

Service was great throughout - but particulalry in the lounge were the staff were helpful and attentive!  Check in and check out was extremely easy and everyone had a smile on their face and said hello - none of it seemed forced at all which is very nice!

Dining

I didnt eat at the restaurant or the bar, although both looked good.  I stayed in the Executive Lounge during the evening.  The lounge was busy at the start but soon everyone left to go to dinner and it was far more pleasant.

The lounge hours were 5-7pm canapes and 7-9 desserts with wine and beer being poured throughout.  There was also some bread and cheese pulse some nuts.  The canapes were delivered on a plate and were higher quality than you get in most lounges - there was also a menu delivered which I thought was a nice touch.

The staff were super friendly - David in particular was chatty and kept my wine glass full!

The view was a spotters dream with aircraft taking off every minute with picture window views of the runway.  There was also a TV with Sky News on with a bit of volume but not too loud.  In fact I thought the Lounge catered for all tastes very well.

Location

The location for any Heathrow Terminal is great.  If you are able to walk a little bit then please dont pay for the Hoppa and use the free buses from Term 1,2,3 station to Nene Stop BJ where the hotel is a min walk.  Getting to and from the airport this way was extremely easy and more importantly free - I really do resent paying for hotel buses at Heathrow!  If anyone wants anymore details please just ask - you just get on the bus, no need to have a ticket or swipe anything just say you are going to the hotel and the driver will let you get on for free.  The bus announces the stops but it is the third stop from the airport called Nene Road and you are there!

You can also use the 423 to T5 from the same stops so to any Terminal the free buses are more regular, and errrrr free!  They can be busy though so if you have lots of luggage they wont be for you!

Overall

Overall I could not fault this airport hotel.  Location was great for all terminals, the staff were very friendly and accommodating and the rooms and decor were modern and comfortable.  Dont be put off by the slightly ugly exterior - there is not much they can do about that but inside they have done a great job of the renovations!

I am moving all my Heathrow stays to this hotel now!

Having stayed here and posted the above review - I wonder if there was a way to change the title of this thread - I think it is off-putting to those that search for this hotel despite the change to 'not a'!

Mods - any chance of just making this a normal Renaissance Hotel thread?

Only if you change the orientation of your photos.

Weird - I have looked at the review on four devices - on the iPhone and iPad it is spot on, but on the MacBook and iMac, all of the photos are inverted 90 degrees anti-clockwise.

Did you take the photos w/ an iPhone? For some reasons iPhone photos on FT post sideways. Not sure anything can be done. There was a thread about it in the technical support forum I vaguely remember reading re: the topic. This page discusses some of the issues. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/techn...ge-post-3.html

I just tilted my head to look at them & appreciate you posting them, along w/ the rest of your review

Viewing FT on a PC the images display 90 degrees anti-clockwise. On my Kindle Fire HD the images also display 90 degrees anti-clockwise.

Cheers.

Yes they were taken with an iPhone - how very strange. Apologies for that - not sure I can do anything about it and I hope the bug gets fixed soon!

I will try and take photos of my other hotels with my camera and maybe that will stop this issue!

I hope you enjoyed the review anyway!

The title has a bit of charm because of the history of hotel and this thread. And the title is factual.

Fair enough - I just thought I would ask - I think that readers that skim will read that this place is a dump (as I did!) and I dont think that is fair but I will not argue the point

It is a great hotel and I have just realised just how comfy the beds are after having a shocking night in the Hilton in Tallinn due to rock hard beds!

This is, unfortunately, how they display on my Chrome browser window:

As SkiAdcock highlighted, thanks for the review and its pictures.
