We'd originally planned to stay at the Renaissance and unfortunately that property appears to be a construction nightmare from all of the comments on Flyertalk and TripAdvisor. Has anyone stayed at this property recently and can comment on hotel condition and recognition of elite benefits? I'm booked at the Amsterdam Marriott in mid-August for 5 nights.

I am yourstruly of the Ren AMS thread,
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...er-thread.html of those infamous construction photos the one who took the liberty to warn everyone to flee elsewhere, let's just say the difference is day & night, i implore everyone to stay elsewhere, when you're settled at the Marriott or W or any other Amsterdam hotel, just for fun have a walk to the Ren and count your blessings ! i can confirm the Marriott Amsterdam has been nicely refurbed, not stayed personally but had a friend (no status) stayed begin July and he was satisfied |
Thanks all for the quick replies. I noticed rooms opened up on points at the Apollo Hotel Amsterdam for the dates we're interested. Any advice on the Marriott vs. Apollo Hotel?

Hmm what can i say,
Apollo hotel It seems to have made a remarkable transformation. The hotel building used to be old junk it was a Wyndham before its own thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...l#post35436695 |

It's one of my favorite international Marriotts. We sometimes use it as a stop over to/from Africa on safaris, leaving a large suitcase with the bell captain ( safaris require one soft bag only). The rooms have been refreshed and the executive lounge is fantastic as are the two restaurants, try the french onion soup other than Mt Orford ski lodge it's the best. Ask for a room facing the bridge.
M Lounge is top notch with a generous selection of food and drinks for breakfast and evening. Here are some of the photos of the view from our 7th floor room and the M Lounge selection for those interested. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bb8a8713ee.jpg View from the room on 7th floor https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c215b6b878.jpg Pastries and Drinks. Fridge is stock with a variety of beverages throughout the day. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2fecbe152d.jpg Donuts, muffins, croissants, and other pastries. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f2a7f955b8.jpg Wide variety of teas, coffees, and bottled drinks. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...45e02a41d4.jpg Fruits, Veggies, Cheeses, Yogurts etc. |
Thank you for reporting,
glad you and your family enjoyed the hotel and Amsterdam..... nice to see the new M-Club! And a lounge that has Chocomel is winner ! |

You and HadesNL were spot on! Thank you so much for your insight! I stayed at the Amsterdam Marriott with my wife and 2 kids. Titanium recognition was good. Booked into a paid Deluxe King bedroom and was upgraded at my request into a Family Room - 2 Double Beds. I communicated with the property in advance to make sure this happened. Only thing that would have made the stay better is a larger room, but this is of course Europe.

Breakfast Benefit - freshly-made pancakes, waffles, eggs, and omelets
One more tip for maximizing the Amsterdam Marriott Executive Lounge. While the Executive Lounge has a great breakfast buffet spread (see pictures in prior post), you can also order freshly-made pancakes, waffles, eggs, and omelets from the lounge staff. My understanding is this benefit is only available to Ambassador and Titanium guests. No one at the property made me aware of this, but I was chatting with another guest who shared this tip with me. We only used this benefit on the last day of our trip and thoroughly enjoyed our special order! Hope you can also enjoy this benefit on your visit to this property!

how did they verify you are a titanium or amb? By the way, this lounge does get quite packed during peak times. I was chatting with the Concierge who mentioned a portion of the guests are Marriott Bonvoy Elite Members, however, there are also lots of people that added pre-paid breakfast to their room rates, so it's a mix of guests using the Executive Lounge. |

When you enter the lounge during breakfast and evening meals, there is a Concierge that checks you in. They ask for your name and room number. When I ordered the "ready to be made" breakfast items, the lounge staff also asked for my room number.
