I happen to visit this property at the beginning of July and also had a room on the 2nd floor, but did not experience any construction noise from the M Club work at that time. I am sure it is in full effect now as mentioned by the other FT member.

As mentioned, the lounge area has taken over a number of the conference room areas. They have a temporary kitchen area only for the eggs and waffle/pancakes area in the morning and everything else comes from the main kitchen. Because I have never been to the normal lounge, I can't tell what was reduced or missing. I felt the lounge breakfast options were very good and typical to what I have seen at other international Marriott FS locations (Zurich or Sydney, etc.). I agree that it does appear they are using the space for breakfast for other guests that have it bundled in their rate or package (in addition to status eligibility).

The temporary lounge area also had the small hot food and dessert in the evening. My perspective was it didn't really rotate during our stay (maybe leftovers shifted to following day) and could be considered a pass.

This property does have laundry machines (7 euros for a token/one load) which seems a bit unique for a FS property. In terms of the local area, of course, you have plenty of trams and buses nearby. There is a Blue Boat loading zone very close by for one of the more common canal tours (sold online at a slight discount). There is a Hard Rock and separate casino also very close to the property. Also, one should not underestimate the actual Leidseplein area on the other side of the nearby canal which is very touristy, but is a hub of many outdoor restaurants and stores that can be of use. If you want to go more local in terms of shops, restaurants or stores, turn left on Stadhouderskade as you leave the property and left again on Overtoom for as far as you wish to explore.

And a reminder that Bus 397 is the best way to get to/from AMS airport to this property. In the main hall before you exit the airport, there is maybe one or two public transport automated machines that sells tickets as well as some of the bookstores in the terminal. However, there is this converted red bus that sells tickets which might be easiest for many. It is not far from the bus loading zone for this bus. The red bus can sell round-trip bus tickets and child bus tickets via card or cash specifically for the 397. The bus driver also sells tickets, but only takes card. For public transport, what I could not easily find was a person to sell child GVB day passes. Machines don't (because they believe adults will use them) and most tube stations are now unattended for sales depending on the machines to sell tickets. I didn't find a manned GVB ticket store either at the airport. It looks like trams have a manned booth in the middle that can sell them, but I needed one when I started my day at the metro.

The hotel is nice, but the staff except the people from the executive lounge seemed quite incompetent.
The hotel is blocking a huge amount (over 10,000 EUR) on my credit card which has not yet been unblocked (10 days after the stay)

Hope you can get the room also either side would work well. The hotel tells me the executive lounge renovations are on schedule that place is a treat.

Don't forget you can take the bus from the airport to right across the street !!!!!!

Does anyone know how this property compares to the other options (i.e. W/Renaissance/Apollo)? Looking to book a few nights in the city.

I've never been to Amsterdam, so mainly looking for ease of access to/from the airport, tourist attractions, food, and the like.

From the pictures I could find online, it looks like the Marriott has the largest rooms by far? There are three of us, so it'd be a helpful secondary criteria, as I'm just a lowly Gold and unlikely to get any sort of upgrade.

I agree this is the first full service Marriott internationally and has been a winner all along. The renovation was well done and I understand the lounge and it's kitchen is undergoing that as well, soon to be reopened. The lounge is one of the best in the system, Always well stocked, breakfast is without a doubt fantastic. Walk out the doors at the airport hop on the bus and you're there, walk across the street buy you boat pass and hop on! Walk across the bridge and plenty of great local eateries, yep this one.

Despite what it says on the website, I assure you the Ren in Amsterdam will put a rollaway in the smallest room category for a 20 Euro fee. It's a very tight fit but they will remove some of the extra furniture to make it work. Just email ahead the request and it will be confirmed upon checkin.

Wash but recommend Marriott
