Thank you for crediting us with the ability to have supervised and/or controlled our 21 year old daughter when we last stayed. Frankly, if we had any control we would have made her pay for her own Lava Flows.

I was actually surprised at how young the crowd seemed. I, too, expected octogenarians to fill the place up. But there were quite a few couples that seemed to be honeymooning and other young families as well.

Princeville is much quieter than any other resort area I've ever been too. Don't expect a huge nightlife at the hotel.

When we were there in May it skewed much older, but in mid Dec there were a LOT of couples in their 20s there...

From the bastion of great reporting, OK magazine,

The St. Regis Princeville is a celebrity mecca attracting the likes of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Alicia Keys and George Clooney. Perched on the cliffs of Kauai’s North Shore, the resort boasts stunning views of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hi with signature amenities such as Jean- Georges restaurant Kauai Grill, the 10,000-square-foot Halele’a Spa, St. Regis’ legendary butler service, and a spectacular infinity pool. Celebs like Brody Jenner and Avril Lavigne work off their energy by surfing and kayaking.
Perhaps labeling myself as too young, but I don't consider any of them as being "young" (they're all older than me :-P). To the poster who posed the question though, I stayed here shortly after the renovation on my own accord, and did not feel out of place at all (I was 22 at the time). That said, I also tend to steer towards nicer properties (having been questioned by many when I was in college of what happened to the hostels and motels I was supposed to be staying in at the time) over "age appropriate" properties, so you may want to take my input with a grain of salt...

This is a very romantic hotel -- kids are welcome in a British way (seen but not heard) -- and every square inch of the place is elegant.

Hello,
I was wondering if C+P @ 8,000 points and $150 a night is the standard C+P rate for this hotel?
Is that good value? (broadly speaking)

Thanks for any replies^

Yes it is the standard rate. And depending on what you value spg points at plus what the room rate is. It is usually a good value.

Thanks "TravelOnMyMind" for your reply^.
The room rate is $970 for a standard mountain view room (its April 2013!) so I'm happy with the $820 a night saving!

At first when I read that room rates were $970 per night for a standard mountain room I was going to say that was wrong, but you are right

Prices have gone UP massively over the past year then in that case

Now of course that is a rate for a room 12 month in advance... If you go back to November 2012 that room rates goes back down to USD 350

I read about 20 pages of this thread and performed a search, but did not find an answer to my question.

Does anyone have any experience or opinion on negotiating a paid suite upgrade when using C&P?

I realize as a Gold I may receive a complimentary upgrade to a better room or perhaps even a Jr Suite. However, what if I wanted to pay at the time of check in to get into one of the Crown/Specialty suites. I recognize there is no SPG corporate policy on this, but I'm sure the hotel has its own program for something like this.

Approximately 10 days before your arrival, if you book a standard award or a Cash & Points award at this resort, you'll get an email offer in a pre-arrival email to move you to a Junior Suite for $100 per day extra. This would be subject to availability at the time of your request and you would just click on the link provided to request it. Note: If you choose to wait until check-in, the price will probably be higher.

I think your best bet is going to be a Junior Suite upgrade using this method in advance of check-in, but you can always negotiate at the front desk for a better suite type and offer to pay more $$ on a Cash & Points rate, subject to the availability of the suite you're looking for.

Thanks William. Can you provide any historical data on occupancy levels of the specialty suites at St Regis Princeville during May? I realize this may be a lot to ask, but I thought it would be worth a shot...
