Name's not Mike.

Please read through posts as there is a lot of information there. Short answer is no, you don't have to be a US Bank customer to get a visabuxx through them. I wasn't prior to getting a visabuxx through them.

I have been receiving a number of private messages over the course of the past few weeks. People either are asking specific questions about visabuxx, or are telling me that I should delete my posts or warning me that the 'deal' will be pulled soon.

If you have questions about this, please post it here so all can benefit from the answer. I won't answer any specific questions via private message. And I quite frankly don't care if they pull the 'deal'. FlyerTalk is a forum to share information, and that's what I'm doing. I could easily keep this information to myself. But I believe in the value of sharing it, and therefore decided to. And further, I don't believe that visabuxx will be cancelled due to many people using it They've built in a revenue stream, and will benefit by having more people do it. This differs from the Citibank Citicash card that they used to offer. Since they didn't have a revenue stream built in, they folded very quickly. So I don't believe visabuxx will go away as a result of too many people doing it.

That's my 2 cents......ymmv.

They lose money. And whomever owns the Visabuxx name and business idea still has to make a profit.

Visa Buxx is an offering of VISA not any particular bank. You can fund your Visa Buxx card using any credit card not just a cc issued by US Bank

If it seems a bad deal or too complex to anyone, they don't have to do it

I tend to agree with MeLike2Travel

OK, thanks.

Are your sure I did? No biggie, but I don't remember writing that. And I don't see it in that thread....though I may be blind and forgetful :)

MeLikeToTravel (not Mike); et al,

I think I am ready to get my feet wet. How many cards should I sign up for under my teen's name? What are the various fees I should be aware of. I haev a USBANK ATL about 10 miles from me, is this the only place I should be withdrawing the funds in order to defrary costs at their most?

All of these questions/issues have been answered in this thread.

As UpgradeMe wrote, all of those questions have been answered. I would suggest reading through the threads, as well as the terms & conditions of the visa buxx cards on their site. You say that the nearest US Bank is 10 miles away. Do you regularly go near it? If not, I'm wondering how worth it is considering the distance. I would do maybe 2 cards at first to see if you like it. You can always open more cards if it works out well for you.

When you order additional cards, does each card have to have an unique SSN?

USBank requires a unique social secuirty number.

MeLike2Travel Jul 17, 2004 10:22 am

That's not correct. I have four cards that have me listed as the teen and my fiance listed as the parent. And four more cards with her listed as the teen and me listed as the parent. In each case we're using our correct SSN's.

UpgradeMe Jul 17, 2004 10:35 am

All I know is that my attempts to create a second card have been rejected, allegedly because of the fact that the SSN matches an existing card.

MeLike2Travel Jul 17, 2004 4:32 pm

You have to set it up as another account, not as another teen on the existing account.

$500 ATM withdrawal causes account suspension

I got a new US Bank Visa Buxx cards and successfully loaded and withdrew $1500 from a US Bank ATM (3 withdrawals of $500 each). However a few hours later I got 3 emails from US Bank each saying my Visa Buxx acount had been shutdown due to a security alert and to call in to verify the transactions. I called and got an answering machine and left a message saying I verified the 3 ATM transactions. I got a call back the next day from their security unit and after I verified that I performed the 3 ATM transactions I was told that my account was being reactivated. He did not ask for any explanation for what I did, but he volunteered that very few of their account holders made large ATM withdrawals and that if I was planning to make large ATM withdrawals in the future my account would be subject to a similar suspension each time.

The next day I tried just a $500 load and ATM withdrawal on my 2nd US Bank Visa Buxx card and again a few hours I got a single email with the same message as before. I reactivated the account a day later as described previously.

Evidently each large ATM withdrawal generates an automatic account suspension a few hours later (so in the first case it generated 3 account suspensions on the same account!)

I have tried loading & withdrawing $200 and no account suspension is generated. I will try $300 tomorrow to see if that avoids the account suspension (Based on the OPs experience that should be OK).

I would urge everyone to avoid trigering these account suspension messages : so far they are treating these are possible card loss alerts and just asking for verification but if they get a lot of these suspensions (each of which requires a human in the loop to investigate) at some point someone is going to figure out what we are doing and shut us down. (Lets not even comment on the futility of their security software shutting down my Visa Buxx card several hours after 3 withdrawals of $500 were made).

I wonder if you can do multiple $300 withdrawals on the same day without triggering their account suspension software.
