It's action code 70.

And don't use a MC - that is where you went wrong. You can try again but you'll need to swipe the MC BEFORE the cashier hits total/card. If they go to quickly I'll say "let me try and swipe it first." Then you'll need to select "Change Payment" then "Debit". (MC debits default to credit at WM.)

Thank you so much. I thought the change payment thing is only for BHN serviced MGC.
The main reason I bought SSMGC is that they are easier to use online. SSVGC sometimes failed when I use it for tax payments. I think only one of them is always ok with VGC. The other two only takes one-click visa payment.

I did it at the register located at self checkout. I had already purchased a MO at customer services so didn't want to double up.

If they're hesitant as this cashier was, I found that saying "I think it's 70 action code" usually works.

can the load be done at the self check machine without asking for the casher for help?

For what reason? Issuer or amount problem?

Gosh dang. I'm really sitting on my butt with these Staples MGC... I'll give it a try at my local WM and see what happens.

lowkeyflyer May 25, 2023 10:06 pm

Just came back from a WM in SNA. Here's what happened.

Action code used was 70.
1. Put Discover Debit Card into the reader with the chip.
2. Input zip code then take Discover card.
3. Confirm with cashier about how much to reload (I tried $20, $50, $100)
4. Confirm the amount on terminal then swipe your GC (I was using the Staples MGC).
5. "TENDER NOT ALLOWED"

So now I'm stuck with some MGCs :|

Try buying a WM-compliant $500 VGC (SS or Vanilla serviced by InComm) using your MGC's and split payment. Do it at a regular checkout, not Money Center.
