THIS IS A NEW THREAD FOR 2018. The previous thread is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

You can earn gas points from both regular grocery shopping and gift card purchases (promotion only).

The grocery reward points (Go Rewards or Flexible Reward) can be transferred to either gas points (Fuel Rewards) or grocery points. The conversion rate is 100 points = $0.10/gallon or 100 points = $1 saving in grocery.

Additional Information

• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behavior if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

When I went yesterday morning to a Giant MD store, the service desk employee said "the system" wouldn't take my phone number. This did not entirely surprise me because I had seen a post in this thread yesterday morning saying "the system was down." I didn't think that would affect point accumulation, but it seems to have. I personally aborted the purchase rather than endure the hassle of trying to get the points to post later.

Anyone in S&S land made a $1.5k purchase, got points, and made another purchase afterwards and got points again?

S&S here. I made 2 purchases on that day. One purchase points showed up yesterday, second purchase points showed up today.

Calling isn’t as bad as it used to be. Gmd can now view your receipt. No more emails to get points added.

How much did you purchase in each transaction? Were they at the same S&S store?

I just looked through the past few years in the Wiki and it seems likely there will be 2 more Visa/MC gc promos this quarter.

I don't recall seeing it mentioned here. I noticed I have a Chase offer for 10% back at Stop & Shop on two of my cards. Capped at $11 and $9 back, but that covers a few activation fees, so I'm not complaining!

Haven't been able to get past the $2K buy limit in regards to points up here in S&S land this promotion. I experimented with two different S&S accounts in different increments and both maxed out at just under 6K points awarded per account.

Account #1
Purchases (all different S&S locations):
-$1K in VGCs on Friday (points awarded)
-$500 on Saturday (points awarded)
-$475 on Sunday (points awarded)
-$2K Monday (NO points awarded)

Account #2
Purchases (all different S&S locations):
- $1500 in VGCs on Monday (points awarded)
-$475 same day (points awarded)
-$1000 VGS and $10 in food items same day (points awarded for food, but not VGCs)

Has anyone in S&S land been successful using a similar or different method to bypass the cap?

These were done on two different accounts. I jumped the gun, second account didn't get points. Have to follow it up.

For my first S&S card:
I bought 3*$500 Friday, points posted successfully, bought 4*$500 Saturday, points posted successfully.

For my second S&S card:
I bought 3*$500 Saturday, points did not post. I called today to get points added. I plan to try $2K tomorrow. When I called, the representative told me that they were told to tell customers the new rule is to limit to $2K in one transaction. But we all know that is not true

I plan to visit a S&S tomorrow. I don't live in S&S territory but I sometimes pass through. If I don't want any point hassles, can I "safely" buy 4 $500 gift cards? I don't think they'll let me buy more in one transaction, and it seems like multiple transactions (at least on the same day) are a no-go.

Most S&S have a limit of $2k Gift Cards per day so you should be ok.
Some stores have taken the new rule to mean 1x$500 per deal, but they are outliers and the system gives points anyway, but worth noting in case the system is down and you have to ask for manual credit.

Thanks for the DPs. I'm not sure why my experience was different from yours. I'm going to make a new account and try again tomorrow to see if I can replicate your results.

Thanks, During the last promo, the S&S store I stopped into had a $2000 limit sign, so I'm expecting that. If I want more points, is my only reliable alternative now to go to a second store and load them to a different S&S account (like in my wife's name)? And then does she need her own Fuel Rewards account and her own Giant MD account if we want to combine points for "free" gas? Sounds like significant hassle, but if you need the extra fill-ups, it would be worth it. For me, I just prefer not having to visit an inconvenient S&S store more than once every 2 months (the longest you can keep your points from expiring).

Meanwhile, in Giant MD territory, it's easy for me to stop in a couple times during the promo week to buy more gift cards. But it sounds like after I spend a combined total of $2 this week, I won't earn any more gas points. Is that correct?

And does anyone know if there are limits on total weekly spending at Giant PA?
