THIS IS A NEW THREAD FOR 2018. The previous thread is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

You can earn gas points from both regular grocery shopping and gift card purchases (promotion only).

The grocery reward points (Go Rewards or Flexible Reward) can be transferred to either gas points (Fuel Rewards) or grocery points. The conversion rate is 100 points = $0.10/gallon or 100 points = $1 saving in grocery.

- - - - - - - - - -

Additional Information

• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behavior if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

Yes I could use a different CC but theres 1 I use not only for 2x but I need the points for an upcoming stay I want to book before its gone

Now had I in the past done >$1500 at the same chain the same day then I would agree with you, its sort of like getting a new CC and knocking off the entire needed Spend in the 1st day you activated the CC,IMO is simply asking to be shut down

$5k multiples same day with same credit card. If it takes more than one trip to k pick out minimum spend stg is wrong. Simon $25k one card. Go balls deep or go home.

well the cards I can do 25k on I have no reason to, and the card I want to use I cant do 25K. As to supermkts, its a very good chance if I do 2 in one day that the 2nd wont go thru due to the fraud dept, its happened before and then I waste well over an hour till its all taken care of and in the mean time they have to cx everything and redo it, and the fraud dept will ask why am I making 2 purchases for those amounts. Rather not have them look into my activity. 2 days in a row is slightly better as long as its within my home area. its not ideal but alot better then 2 in the same day

btw who is doing min Spend? Im looking to get pts to use at a particular hotel during its very peak season, and pts cant be moved into that program from any other source so its earn it with BIB (butt in bed) or via the CC.and BIB will take forever And should Simon KO the 1Ks then it would be more costly getting the 500s at Simon over 500s at a supermkt (since its 2x at the supermkts)

Logged in my SS account and noticed the invitation to activate Go Points (also Giant Flexible Rewards). I activated both and both cards were dropped from the Fuel Rewards account so I have to re-add them. Looks like the points will be earned as Go Points or Flexible Rewards first and then you can redeem the points to grocery dollar or gas points. Good news for those that have too many gas points to use up.

Tell them you are overweight and eat a lot. And it's a total coincidence all purchases happen to come to $1011.90.

i’ll go ahead and speculate: go points will eventually lead to the death of the gas rewards program as we know it. it’ll add another layer of accounting scrutiny, and the whales who routinely amass 30k+ point balances will finally raise red flags. the best outcome i see is capping point balances around 10k.

the noobs with a post count of 1-10 who routinely post here and openly buy/sell points certainly don’t help. i strongly suggest that the 2020 edition of this thread gets posted in coupon connection, so that only FT members with some sort of history can participate.

The amateur hour selling should be cracked down on and stopped. Its pretty easy to see where you are swiping the card to earn points and where you are grabbing fuel. I think they will crack down it simply because it looks very much like fraud (1 account being used in 15 locations all over the northeast in the span of a week is not normal).

In regards to using points towards groceries, that is actually much better for the bottom line then gas. Groceries are marked up a lot, gas is not. They will lose a lot more money on 30k points used for gas vs 30k points used for groceries. 30k worth of points are worth $300 towards groceries (2000 points = $20 off) but 30k points is $750 worth of gas (at Giant PA anyway since you can do 25 gallons). So it is much better for their bottom line if people redeem for groceries vs gas.

Sadly it's probably just a matter of time go points replace the gas rewards program.

I'm not going to post how, as I don't agree with it and don't want to make the practice more widespread. However there is another step some people are taking after they sell the points. That is where it becomes fraud.

Selling points is not against what is in the terms and conditions. There isn't really much in the terms and conditions aside from when the points expire and how you earn them. I don't think they would ever encourage the sale of points, but nothing listed against it.

Quick question. I just converted some of my gas points toward a $20 grocery redemption. The gas points were going to expire at the end of this month, but the grocery expiration is the following month. Is that normal? Giant PA here.
