You can only load cash at CVS.

So now the Vs from CVS take an hour to activate just like the ones from WGs. They're messin' with my timeline.

In the real world, not so unreasonable.
I can't think of many situations where someone using the card as an actual gift will buy it, give it to their intended recipient and then have the giftee cash it in within an hour :o :D

But I got places to go and people to see (like my WM cashier!). ;)

Anyway, stopped in at one of my regular CVS and ALL THE VANILLAS WERE GONE OFF THE RACK. All the cards that are normally adjacent or around the vanillas were still there, just all the vanilla hooks were completely empty. Obviously they were intentionally removed.

Possibly something afoot?

I stopped at an unfamiliar CVS yesterday and they had all of the Vanilla's behind the checkout counter. I had to ask for them. Fraud was cited as the reason.

I use to purchase the majority of my VGC at CVS, but switched mainly to Staples a couple years ago.

Last week I went to CVS to take advantage of the Chase 7% paypal/drugstore combo. The first store I visited I also was met with almost-empty Vanilla racks. However, I did find a couple pegs with different looking (to me) Visa and MC Vanillas. I believe on the back they mentioned Sutton Bank. I was able to purchase $500 using paypal.

A couple days later, I went back to this same CVS. This time, however, the employee told me I could only purchase up to $250 on the gift card. Said Corp recently changed the policy. When I pushed back, another employee said I could purchase the $500, since they knew I was a regular.

Today, I visited another CVS in town. This store the racks were still full of Vanillas, even SecureSpends. When I attempted to purchase a $500 Visa, the employee said Corp changed the max limit to $200, citing fraud concerns.

In my area, all the Vanilla cards were removed from their pegs on the main display in the store. Due to fraud concerns, they put a reduced number of Vanillas behind the checkout counter on a small display. I have to ask the cashier to hand me some of the cards. I need to look at them to make sure I get the ones with the lower fee ($5.95 vs $6.95) and Sutton/InComm variety. I have made a mistake by not checking the back and looking for Sutton/InComm on the back. Some of the card packages look identical on the front but have different servicer/issuers on the back.

I've been warning about cards with identical fronts but completely different servicers for some time.

Everyone, always check the back for the issuing bank, and more importantly the servicer ! :)

Are you able to use PayPal to purchase gift cards? My local CVSes do not allow this and it appears to be hardcoded into the register.

I use the PayPal QR code connected to my Chase Freedom Flex card to purchase VGCs.

QR code works at SCO also
