LOL. I use my left hand to hold the bottom of the card and with my right hand go straight across the top where the strip is and rip it out.

That's a bummer but no they weren't that smart - the tampering of those cards has nothing to do with price, these are just the older cards that were easy to successfully tamper and drain. The new 7.95+ ones have just come in are nearly impossible to tamper with and drain. The packaging and numbering has been enhanced and they require activating online or over the phone after purchase in order to work.

What are they requiring to prove that you are the rightful owner?

That worked really well. Thank you.

I just found out something interesting. Today was the 1st time that I called to activate the $7.95 Visa/MC gc on the same day that I purchased it. Instead of the normal $500 balance message, it said that the funds would be available in 20 minutes. That is exactly 1 hour after my purchase was made.

My one time I bought a $200 Wally card there, that came back inelgible on the cashback site

I've been making multiple purchases for $490 + $7.95 fee. This keeps the total under the $500 limit. Every purchase I made before this at $495 + fees got zeroed out, but that adds up to more than $500. None of my $490 + fees have been zeroed, but they are all still "pending" too, so we'll see what happens.

I noticed a few months ago the ones I bought at Walmart did that. Now I see the ones at CVS are doing that as well. Probably a security measure.

The one hour delay for funds availability has been in effect for more than a year or two.

Anyone else get the following offer in Rakuten? I don't ever remembering wanting to do this, but can you split payment at CVS?

CVS
12% In-Store
was 2.5%
Just for you

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

US stores only. Offer not valid for gift card or money order purchases, and will be subject to reward reversals. Transactions over $200, or multiple transactions exceeding $200 (as determined by Rakuten or merchant in its sole discretion) are considered fraudulent and will not qualify for rewards. Any such amounts will be subject to reward reversals. CVS stores inside Target stores are excluded. Offer not valid at locations in US territories. In-Store offers not valid for online purchases and cannot be combined with other offers. Buy online, pick-up in-store transactions will not qualify. Debit card purchases must be processed as credit to be eligible for Cash Back. When using a debit card, do not enter your PIN. If you add the same merchant on more than one rewards site or platform, you will only receive rewards through the most recently added Offer. Once you add an Offer, you may make qualifying transactions for up to 1 hour after initial redemption before needing to re-add the Offer. An added offer that has not been redeemed will automatically expire 75 days after it is added or on the date the offer itself ends, whichever is sooner.

Yes. You need the cashier; cannot be done at self-checkout.

According to the T&C's how could this work?

Transactions over $200, or multiple transactions exceeding $200 (as determined by Rakuten or merchant in its sole discretion) are considered fraudulent and will not qualify for rewards. Any such amounts will be subject to reward reversals.

Rakuten will go back and claw back rewards on most or all your in-store CVS transactions before you get the payout - even if you split transactions under $200 this doesn't necessarily matter - what seems to be the trigger is just unusual (to them) total volume.

I haven't tried split payment at CVS but have used the Rakuten offers on Amazon gift cards there without issue. Grab a variable card, keep it under $200, and load a random amount (ex: $191.67).
