So my closed account has taken an unexpected twist... Serve reopened it. "We just wanted to let you know that any disruptions to your American Express Serve® Account have been resolved. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused." Nothing that has occurred over the past week has made any sense. Instant closure and completely disabled account -> No timeline for return of remaining funds -> Lot's of conflicting information when calling in -> CFPB complaint filed -> Account reopened with an "our bad" explanation.
I just liquidated the remaining balance and will definitely be avoiding Serve going forward. |

What else can you use if you avoid it?
I agree with letting things lie dormant for a while (months at least). Then restart the program with small and logical deposits and withdrawals that will not invite human monitoring of the account. While I agree that there are few alternatives, IMO having a functional Serve card is better than being banned from having one. ;) |
Online Debit Card Loads For online debit load, only use of bank-issued cardsis allowed. The use of pre-paid debit cards (Netspend, Paypower, Univision, Paypal, etc.) and VGC/MGC/AGCs is not allowed. While initial transactions may work, your account will eventually be flagged. What happens when an account gets flagged in this manner? Perma shut down? |
A couple weeks ago I got an email that Serve was going to close one of my cards because I hadn't made any deposits in a year. I signed up for 10 OneVIP accounts (5 for me, 5 for my spouse) after they announced it was going away, and I've only ever used one of them because the shutdowns stopped. Strangely, of the 9 completely inactive (but activated) cards they picked number 3 out of my 5 and haven't said anything at all about the rest. I wen't ahead and dropped $50 on that card from my Amex, but I'm wondering if I should go around and fund all the others too just in case? A year ago, the advice seem to revolve around keeping them inactive so they'd only get picked off one at a time during a shutdown. Everybody also said to use them hard, close them quickly, and then reapply for another, but that's not an option any more with these OneVIPs.

I bought a $250 One Vanilla Mastercard pre-paid gift card at Sam’s Club. I don’t know why but It's been declined every time I've tried to load $250 at DG. The Vanilla site says the card is valid. I am wondering what the problem is and how can i fix it. Thanks. |

BB and S are separate entities; limits are $10K per month, $100K annually on each.

Hiya - I'm curious about this.....
I played with Serve and Red Birds way back when they had first been released. Yes, they were all closed back then too. So I really thought that was the end of that. Until I see people here talking about using them again. The Wiki seems to cover what was but not what's going on or I'm just not seeing clearly what it is. So can we apply for a new Serve card since Amex sold them off? |

Why tempt fate when you know you are being closely scrutinized by the provider. Anything out of line would be picked up immediately.

ATM transaction not allowed
I had a Serve VIP for several years now, load about $1.5k/month, use about $300 for purchases and take the rest out through MoneyPass ATM. Now I'm getting a "transaction not allowed" error on two ATMs (different banks), but I still have access to my account and the card still works for purchases. So it does not look like I'm shut down (yet), but does anyone have an idea of what might be going on?
