I just received a certified mail from hunt1ngt0n that I either need to close my account or they will close it in one week.
The letter was from the Deposit Operation, so they probably didn't like the number of MOs I was depositing. this bank was very convenient as they had an ATM where I purchased MOs! I only had the account a little over 3 months and was depositing 1-1.5kat a time not going over 10k per month. |
This is my first shutdown, and I don't know if it really counts. Gift Card Mall won't let me login with my account, and they refuse to give any reason for it. However, they even suggested and encouraged me to use a different email address, which I am able to do successfully. Interestingly, even though I can't login through the main site, I can on the backdoor link using the banned account. I detailed the whole fiasco on the GCM thread, but it doesn't really matter since they're not useful anymore.

Looked through the entire Cit! shutdown thread for Hilton reserve card shutdowns. Do they claw back points on shutdowns? How sensitive are they to MSing? I see advice above to break in spending habits. Is $30-50k per year ok on 1 card? Certain I'll get approved, just don't want it to be short lived. I currently have no citi cards, solid credit, no pulls in 18 months.
TIA |

Thanks for the reply. I have had citi cards in the past, never a late payment, never cycled limits (don't do this anyway). I expect a decent limit.

"Notice of account closing"
Just got the letter of honor from Citi in regard of my checking account with a 3 weeks window to withdraw funds.
Citi customer for 15 years and was my main bank since. Was doing mobile deposits just under 3 k/ month about a year ago and stopped when I got the "phone call" back in September. Also did few thousands AGC few months ago. My CC accounts are still alive for now. For those who went through this with Citi, is this a lifetime ban/ blacklist for all Citi products including CC? Are CC accounts destined to be closed as well?.... Have around 100k TYP sitting around. Any negative remarks reported to ChexSystems? Appreciate the feedback |
The CCs will be next. Best to move the TYPs now or lose those too.

Appreciate the feedback Suggest you to read thru the Citi closure thread in the Citi forum for the last couple months' posts. Your CC will be next. If you dont want to lose the higher redemption value (airline tickets) you should redeem NOW. Also transfer ability would be no more once CCs are closed. As for your checking account, if you close it yourself before the deadline of window, it should not be reported to Chex / EWS (Early Warning Services). It has brief discussion on EWS in the Citi closure thread. Go read it for your own benefits. |

How soon you move the funds out after doing the mobile deposit? 3K/month sounds a fairly low amount.

I am not sure that he can close checking account - I was in the same boat and was turned down, since account was in "closing" state and CSR couldn't do anything.
OP should open some bank accounts BEFORE his Citi account is closed so he would not be affected by CHEX/EWS reports should there be any. |
I don't think he needs to close his checking. This happened to me in July, and I
ordered Chex Systems after the fact. There were no negative marks, and it hasn't affected my ability to open new accounts. Also, my credit cards are still open, but I wouldn't let that stop you from starting the burn process ASAP. I'm glad because I put a lot of value on my Prestige card. If you find out why, keep us posted. They bounced me back and forth between customer service and the branch and didn't get a real answer. |

Customer rep mentioned the closure is due to "Business Activities", and that I have to visit a branch for a possible resolution....but a Citi branch is a couple states away...however I'am willing to visit one if there is any hope... |

So there is hope that the CC accounts will remain open?.... people who got their checking accounts closed, CC closures followed a couple months later...I really don't care about the checking account although it was my main one, I value their CC portfolio, I have DC, premiere,Exec AA, BIZ TYP,BIZ AA, AA Amex, Dividend,Hilton Reserve....

This sounds too bad. So was there any MS activity on the credit cards that may lead to ban on checking accounts.
Please post your activity with Citi checking and CC accounts it will be helpful. thanks |
